Weight Number 21

Spoke pattern. 3 inch diameter. 2 1/8 inch height.

Spoke 21 Top

A single row of blue and cream star canes encloses a very dark central cane.

A "1-1" pattern is formed by the 12 white twists.

This weight is like Weight 13 in that the design also has a garland of alternate canes rather than extending the twists to the outer edge.

Blue ground.

Spoke 21 Cane

This photo highlights the bubbling around the twists but in normal viewing the bubbles are not so noticeable.

This is another Strathearn weight that uses a rather dark overall colouring. Certainly, it is difficult to make out the details of the central cane and the smaller ones in the garland row.

An obvious feature in this item is the "crusty" effect of the bubbles on the cream coloured canes. This effect was noted by John Simmonds in his book, Paperweights From Great Britain, 1930-2000, as a common Strathearn feature.

Spoke 21 Side

The dome looks to be clear of defects but, as with Weight 20, there are "wreathing" lines in the upper parts.

The ground is well formed and is smoothly domed but the outer row of canes appear to protrude slightly higher than the others. This may be just an optical effect.
