When to fish for Bass

FEATURE

INDEX

.***

Three questions are often asked:-

What time of year ?

What time of day / night ?

What type of tide ?

.*

By evaluating reports posted for last year and cross referencing that information with data published by other research we can get some good answers to our questions:-

*

Time of year

*

Without any doubt at all, the period from the end of April to June, normally shows the biggest increase in the amounts of Bass being caught, but we also see another rise from July to August, however data can produce irregular results and this increase could well be due to more fisherman going fishing, during the peak holiday season.

Time of Day

This is not so much a question, but a statement of fact. The majority of Bass shore Anglers will tell you, the best time to fish is around dawn and dusk. With boat Angling the time of day does not seem to influence the catches, however the state of the tide certainly does.

State of the Tide

Here there does not seem to be any firm pattern, each venue may fish different  and may fish different on varying tides. Some venues fish better on a flood whilst others produce the results on the Neap. So here the answer is to find out local knowledge of the venue you plan to fish.

One fact that most Bass Shore Anglers seem to agree on, is the fact that better catches always come on around the time of a Spring Tide.
