We have been asked several times on this site, "Why use a shock leader", some have even wrote and said "They are a waste of money"

The truth is, without one, you risk the possibility of killing either yourself, a fellow fisherman or a passer by.

Should we always beleive what we read ....

When you read a Sea Fishing magazine, many take what it says in the articles as "Gospel", however very often these articles are written by mis-informed journalists. Some don't fish, some are freshwater anglers but thankfully a few are true Beach casters.

Common sense and a bit of thought can go a long way.

Fishing can be a solitary sport, a chance to be on your own. But DO NOT EVER forget other people. A few thoughts for other people, wildlife and our environment can all help preserve the image of our sport.

The UK has an abundance of piers, all around our coast. Indeed Southend's Pier was once the longest in the world and still today holds the title of longest pier in Europe. Unfortunately many of these piers have fallen into disrepair, however thanks to money injected from the lottery and Councils realising that tradition can attract tourists we now are seeing many refurbished to their former glory's.

Why do fish run when hooked ?

Seems each fish hooked up bolts for the weed and rocks and soon there is a bust-off. Apart from swearing loudly which in my experience has not changed the chosen course of any fish I have ever had on my line, so  what can we do?

 Hypothermia - A risk in winter !

Anglers and boaters should be aware of the threat of hypothermia and how to combat it.

Hypothermia occurs when exposure to wind, cold and wetness drains heat from the body faster than it can be produced,

Is  this an Answer to declining fish stocks ?

Our sport has recently taken at lot of bad press.

The unnecessary killing of fish does not help our case when we criticise the Commercial Fisherman for over fishing.

During a recent visit to the USA, I had the pleasure of watching a Bass Fishing Competition.

After watching the match, I had to ask myself, "Is this part of the solution ?"

Hook in the Hand - What should I do ?

If you are a regular fisherman, one of these days you can bet your bottom dollar that you will end up stabbing either yourself or someone with you,  with a hook. Normally this is not a problem, but what should you do if the "Barb" has penetrated and you have firmly hooked yourself (Or a colleague).

Don't panic and remember the following simple guide.
