Chris responds to Luke's demands...

Comment About: The Site

Hi Kev just a couple of things to get straight ...... Firstly Luke and his failure, I attempted to throw myself in the sea as you asked but my floatation suit kept me alive and the nice chaps at the local RNLI station helped me out, also scroll down the page and you will sea (had to) my name appear a lot and on the reports page for the North West so that should answer your question about input !!!! but you still failed !!!!!

Next Billy the Bass along with Beach Caster and your site (unknown to me please send a banner and URL for my link page) my site WWW.wirralseafishing.co.uk also carry's no advertising unlike most out there (keep away from the dreaded Java) by the way Luke happy St Patrick's Day... and I think that you should go for best out of three !
cheers and tight lines
Chris

Chris, As webmaster of Beach-Caster.Com, I merely publish visitors letters, but do not necessarily agree with their content. I thank ALL contributors for their submissions !

As for a "Best out of three", firstly, please don't set them off again (I don't think my ISP has enough Web space to cover the banter !). Secondly, according to Luke's report, Edd is already 2-0 up, so it's Game, Set and Match to Edd !

YES... He is back !!!!

Comment About: Other Fisherman's Habits

Complaint:

First of all I'd like to say HI THERE to all my fans out there! Yes it is true I'M BACK!  you all thought I was gone but it was not so. I was just taking a break baby!  As for this Chris character, who exactly are you anyway? I don't remember ever hearing from you before on the comments page and I don't think anyone cares either.  you may try to slander the rivalry between myself and Mr. Edd look at my latest fishing fashion wear' But what contribution have you ever made to this site anyway Chris? none! exactly so take your petty opinions and next time you go fishing throw yourself in the sea!

As for those of you out there who are interested.........

Myself and Edd and Pat headed out to Newcastle which is actually no more than a bloody petrol station in the bowels of nowhere! and began fishing.  A very bad day was had by all on this beach. but it does have to be said that both Pat and Edd did catch a small Coalfish each whilst I caught not a sausage!  Of course I demanded a rematch and the smug 'Red Pox' Burke accepted as it may have been pure luck as we had had no bites all day.

The rematch took place a week after, this time the venue was Court-town beach which is an excellent location as the sea comes over a large sand bank about 120 yards out. from the shore it gets deep quite quickly. the advantages are these:

1)The fish here are generally of a decent size!
2) This effect has created a gully with a strong tide flow that attracts the fish to washed up food deposits
3) It is a very comfortable place to fish!
4) The tide does not seem to effect the fishing too much as there seems to be a constant supply of fish even when the tide is going out although you do get blank patches where nothing seems to be happening. these however rarely last more than an hour!  the downside is however the fish mainly only show at night.

So away we went.  I have to take my hat off to edd as he managed to bag several Codling that night one of which was half a pound! and a 1lb Dog as well as a decent enough plaice! all in all he managed 8 fish. I however only managed a plaice and a codling. I seem to be going through a bad patch lately but it WILL pass..........................

All in all it was a great session the high point of which being that Edd kept managing to get his hooked fish stuck up a nearby tree!

He is over in Newcastle in the UK at the moment and as far as I know brought his rod with him so ill be interested in how he gets on........

THE GLORIOUS LUKE SCULLY

Oh Dear Luke, Now we know why you have not been by, DON'T  WE. Come on ADMIT IT. Ed Burke BEAT YOU and you did not want to tell us. Thought you would keep low till Ed was in the UK and nobody would notice.

As Webmaster of BEACH-CASTER.COM I am compelled to declare Edward Burke the winner of the challenge !!!

Sponsorship ! ... Now ay, Don't do it !!!

Don't do it! desist and don't even consider it. No adds no charges no way. your site and mine are the only ones on the net that aren't cluttered with pointless crap . Virtual awards are enough. Keep the faith.

Billy the Bass

OK Billy, point taken.

Awards...

I think what Tom is saying is that you just email them award that maybe they could print off..... not an award in the form off a prize could be a good idea to get people to pass on the info !

Chris

I wish offering our visitors a piece of paper was enough to encourage them to post reports etc. Unfortunately I very much doubt it !

Has Beach-Caster.Com contracted Foot & Mouth ?

Comment About: The Site

At the risk of contracting foot in mouth, where the hell are you! I've reports of no fish to publish, of no matches that have taken place and also of our brush with the law that we missed but heard of. Surely MAFF have not banned fishing web sites as well as everything else....

BILLY THE BASS

No, Sorry to Billy and all our visitors, unfortunately my job (Which pays the bills and pays for my ISP) requires me to go overseas from time to time. This was one of those times, but I am back and so are the regular updates, to come on and get posting !

We are back...

WERE BACK! as from today 16/3/01 off shore fishing and shore fishing not near or over farm land is permitted in Eire, THANK GOD! I was just about at breaking point. We have our first boat trip booked for monday with Peter Manning out of Ballycottton, plus the wall in Monkstown is fishing well......Sigh! Normal service is resumed.

Billy the bass.

Awards ?

Comment about: The Site

Suggestion:

Why don't you have an award for tip or hint of the month because it will tempt more people into sharing their tips with others and not everybody has to enter.

Tom

Because Tom, this is a totally Non-profit making site, so any awards would need to come out of my own pocket. Unless of course there is some kind sponsor out there who wants some cheap advertising ?

Enough is enough....

Ok,Ok,Ok enough is enough the bickering beetween Luke,Lisa and and Han's Solo has go to stop as it is getting very very boring !!!
PLEASE PLEASE .............................................................
aaaarrrrrrrrgggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh

Chris.

Fully agreed with Chris, but just what did happen at the "Dual", nothing has been heard of all three since that Saturday !!!

What about a Tournament ?
What about organising a tournament? The beach caster.com challenge. I'm sure given a reasonable amount of notice and assuming the foot and mouth thing is over I and fellow cotributers from Ireland could make the journey. Or perhaps you all might like to visit us in Cork. (think on it)

Billy the bass.

I like the sound of that ! I have put a page up to judge peoples interest. Keep visiting to see how the idea develops.

Where the updates ?!?!?!

Complaint about the site.

Where are you? (not hiding from Luke Scully I hope) Lets see an update mate. What else can I do on a Monday night if not read the best site on the web.

Billy the bass

We are sorry for the delays in updates, but I have been recuperating in the local psychiatric hospital, the strain of Luke and Ed got to me. No seriously I have been working away from home so could not get to the PC, but all should now be up to date.

OK, I give in, is this a wind up or wot ?

Dear diary, luke & ed & mr hicks went a fishin' on saturday 17/2/01 in newcastle co. Dublin and refused to let me adjudicate 'who's got the biggest fish' combat- why? Cause i'm a bird-thats why! How sexist can they get? I offered to wear my waders, but, alas- no go! I had my revenge & spent my day in the real world watchin' old 'buffy' & 'angel' episodes, eating chocolate while the three muskateers caught nothing-not even a cold! Rumour has it that edmund caught 5 fish-but if that were true, surely he'd have been bragging by now- 5 fish-that's sooooo two days ago!! I'm beginning to think that ed is a wuss for not contributing to the page-what's this guys story? What is ed burke afraid of? Is it the waders? Surely not! And whats lukes problem with tight lines?-they're all the rage these days. Poor old luke is stuck back in his huckleberry finn days where he spent his youth a fishin on the mississippi riva-get with the tight lines luke-join us on the dark side-use the force-use the tight lines! Anyway, who is this mr hicks person that i mentioned in the beginning of my dear diary saga? Does he really exist? Is he the realdeal? Rumour has it that he's quite nifty with the tight lines- when luke is not there of course! Mr hicks- where are you- contribute! And that goes for you two ed-i'll be monitoring the success of these three dudes over the next couple of weeks & promise to tell all-the truth that is. I've got contacts- i know there is a fish-a-thon planned for this weekend in wexford of all places! How will they get on? They hasd no luck in newcastle! Stick with greystones boys- there's a good fish & chip shop there that i'd recommend-but sure you'd already know that-would'nt you? Lisa pisces xxxxx

And if you know whats she is on about, your a better man than I. Maybe I begining to understand this whole triangle. There must be something in the water and I don't mean fish !!!

Anyway, that enough, we don't want to here any more about the dispute between Luke and Ed, do we ?????....?????

Ed fires another shot...

Comment About: The Site

The top eight fishing clichés..............................My god. Did you ever read such drivel in your life. Those "clichés" are positively lame. Seriously Luke couldn't you have devoted another minute of your time to come up with another two clichés.  The top eight fishing clichés, more like: The only fishing clichés I could come up with!
                                          Tight lines
                                              Ed

Oh no, I see another round of letters coming on ....

Cod on the beaches

Nice to see some cod coming of the beaches

Gary

Gary the "Keyword" here is "Some", but unforntunetlt not enugh. Lets hope the planned actions by MAFF will have effect.

The Dual is on.... just like this story it may go on and on  and on...

Dear beachcaster.com

Further to the ongoing exchanges between Luke(20 small ones are as good as one big one) Scully and Ed (look at my shiny new rod) Burke I wish to confirm that I will be present at tomorrows so called duel between these two novice anglers. Many thanks to beachcaster.com for helping resolve this once and for all, maybe now I can go fishing with them without having to endure their petty bitching to one another. Maybe if they concentrate on the fishing and not the squabling they will learn from me the true master and catch more than 2 ounce whiting. I will issue a report after the "duel".

Tightest of Lines

Pat

We look forward to finaly putting this saga to bed ...........PLEASE.

No Gentleman fisher....

I have read through the arguments coming from Mr Luke Scully and Mr Edd Burke.
One of these men is not as he seems. I do recall going out on a trawler with both of these men one day and the antics where not as one would expect from a gentleman fisher. Mr Edd Burke was seen a number of times robbing bait and feathers from his fellow fishing companions. He then went on to catch the biggest fish that day but only AFTER Mr Scully had told him to use a different bait as the one he was using sucked!! And he caught this fish using Luke's bait!

We're on to you Ed. Own up!!! You will have your comeuppance!!!!!!

Aileen Parsons

Oh dear Ed, the Odds seems to be staking against you in the Fair Fisherman of the year award

Any Luck ?....

Comment About Other Fishermans Habbits

I use tight lines, well what else can you say. The one I hate most is (had any luck) yes all bad.

Billy the Bass

More Fishing clichés....

Who has upset Luke!?......................
we all use the saying tight lines (bar Luke) but do agree with the others another one is:-

What do you catch Mr.........erm  - Fish maybe !! now p**s off you little git..........

TIGHT LINES
(SORRY LUKE)

Top Fishing clichés....

The top eight fishing clichés must be;-

  1. Tight lines!-The stupidest thing I've ever heard.

  2. Are the mackerel in yet? -Oh someone just give me a hatchet!

  3. Are you going fishing?- No I'm just carrying this stuff for the laugh!

  4. People singing 'gone fishing' - When we all know that's the only words of the song they know!

  5. Any luck lads? - (BLEEP) off!

  6. Saps walking up the pier for no apparent reason in all weathers - and Lisa says I should get a life!

  7. What type of fish are you fishing for lads? - big ones now (BLEEP) off!

  8. Todays a great day for fishing - yeah? the tide is out!

Luke Scully

I like it, we have all been there, freezing cold, soaking wet and up will pop one of these clichés. Sorry about the censorship but must not upset the ICRA ! Mind you I must admit to using "Tight Lines" myself !

Do you have a cliché, if so e-mail it to us, to add to our list.

Referee appointed for Beach-Caster.Com Challenge

I'm back! I see you're looking for a referee for the Luke versus Ed bash- well my friend, you've got one! For a handsome reward, I am prepared to freeze my fins off to partake in this historic moment! Like you, I too am fed up with this playful banter and namby pambying around. Let them show us what they're really made of! Are they the real captain birdseye or just cheap yellowpack imitations. I don't know about you but I'm prepared to sort this out once & for all.

Just let them name the time & place and I'll be there- waders and all!- just as long as it's not after a saturday night cause chances are i'll be sleeping in with the enemy- Lluke Scully and not even the call of the sea will get me out of my bed after a night partying- the sea legs do not fair well after a nights drinking I'm afraid! So are we on or wot? P.s. where are all the fishing widows? Write in girls- I hear young Mr burke is looking for a mermaid!

Lisa Pisces

Lisa, forget the picture of the biggest fish, just a picture of you in your waders will do just fine !. All we need now is for Ed to accept the challenge. Hello Ed, are you out there ?

Luke accepts the Beach-Caster.Com Challenge....

Edd Burke has finally risen from his hiding place eh?  Telling porkies are we?  Trying to lay the seeds of doubt?  We all know you were nothing till you met me! I taught you everything you know, but I didn't teach you everything I know!  Come on then take up the challenge and I''ll show you up for the tiddler catcher you are Mwaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwww ha ha ha!

Luke Scully

Glad to see your up for it Luke, but don't mince your words so much next time !

I beat Luke "my reel is bigger than yours" Scully fairly

Comment About: Other Fishermans Habbits

I fished with Luke "you've got to think like a fish" Scully years ago at a competition in Greystones. I beat Luke "my reel is bigger than yours" Scully fairly. The fact that he still is eating sour grapes is a reflection on his life.
                             Tight lines
                                 Ed Burke

Excellent site despite,  lukescullinisation. keep up the good work.

As you can see Ed, to date we have only seen one side of the story, so hope we didn't seem too biased. Anyway, our comments section is getting full of the rivalry between Ed and Luke so we feel the only way to sort out who is the best fisherman, is for a straight fish out. Tell us the venue, the time and the results. All claims (Of who's got the biggest etc.) must be supported by a photograph. Can any other visitor referee ?

I think you need to update daily ....

Comment About: The Site

I think you need to update daily and do more article for the new start as the sport is hard enough.

Also a regional guild i.e. N. Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales thinks like where is fishing well and seasons for fish.

Other sites have started to do this but I still enjoy your site.

Rob

Rob, This site is updated most days, as for the regional guides, if you look at the "Reports" section you will be able to see how the areas have been fishing. Unlike many sites, this site is not run by a company, hence no banners adds, links to the back of beyond etc. This site relies on the visitors send in reports, articles etc. I then spend one to two hours a day, updating the site. If you want to see the site grow, make sure you post reports when you go out, send in details of anything related etc.

Luke responds...

Comment about: Other Fisherman's Habits

Don't mind my girlfriend she hasn't a clue, she likes to come home from work and slouch in front of the TV. Fishing is all about having a theory and watching it work or fail and is very rewarding. Some people will just never get that!  as for Edd Burke he and I go back a long way and are bitter rivals.  He just can't accept that I kick his sorry ass all the time.  He's nothing more than a cheap yellowbelly mackerel basher (those clowns who show up in your spot when the good weather arrives and feck off again when autumn approaches) if you're listening Edd reply. I challenge ya to a duel.......

Luke Scully

Upsetting the girlfriend and challenging Edd to a dual, all in one day. Luke you do like to live dangerously don't you !

I can't see nothing wrong with Luke. Can you ?...

My boyfriend, the annoying Luke Scully will not shut up about fishing. can u help him get a life please. Why cant he be like other boyfriends and enjoy the other pleasures in life, such as walking in the rain, watching the bicycles going by in twos & threes. Sure there is a dance in Billy Brennans barn tonight and his just not interested. My ex, Paddy Kavanagh was more exciting! help & suggestions to curb Lukes ferocious fishing appetite are welcomed.

Lisa McConnell

Sorry Lisa, can't see what the problem is, if you really want to spend more time with Luke, why not take up fishing ?

Come on you Dubliners ! (But Not Edd Burke)

Comment about: The Site

Where are all the Dubliners? No one is writing in except me!  Not even my ARCH NEMESIS EDD BURKE is sending in any comments! This man is a liar, do not believe a word he says! He will give you false information and try to ruin all your fishing outings.  This man is not to be trusted. I once witnessed him stealing a large plaice off a young boy at a fishing competition in Greystones just so he could claim the prize.  We don't need scum like this in our sport. but come on the rest of you send in reports and tips etc.

Luke Scully

Luke, as our biggest contributor may I give you a really big thank you. This Edd seems like a "Nice" type of guy !

VISITORS REPLY

Ed burkes can be found mostly in Howth freezing their assess off & fishing on their own late at night. He needs friends. Join him this Saturday for an all day extravaganza in Howth. Bring your rod, tent & thermos for a fun filled afternoon. Save the Ed now!!

Lisa McConnell

Oh dear, what have we started. Am I mistaken by thinking this message was posted by Luke's girlfriend. The same Luke that describes Ed as "scum like this..

Glad you like it Dave, Don't forget to post us a report whenever you put your lines out.

Get the Trawlers out of Cork Harbour.

I am writing to you as the Conservation Officer with  Crosshaven Sea Anglers .I am sending to you a letter I have sent to our Department of the Marine in the hope they will do something about this terrible waste.I hope any anglers around the Cork area who will see this will write to the Minister at his E-Mail address " minister@marine.irlgov.ie " to support the banning of trawling inside Roches Point to try and save our already depleted inshore fish stocks. I hope you can post this.

Keep up the good work,a great site . An angling site for anglers ,at last.

Brendan Kenneally.

Thanks for the compliment and anything we can do to support your efforts, please let us know. Good Luck.

READ BRENDANS LETTER

A tale of two outings.

Comment About: Our Sport

1st outing; Read reports page Ireland Currabinny pier 14/1/01. 2nd outing Sunday 7th Ringaskiddy deep water quay. Evergreen anglers fished a staked match from 9am low water at this traditionally even venue. Crosshaven sea anglers also had a rover in which a good few decided to try there luck on the quay. The weather was clear but bitterly cold, not very good for the unprotected but great for whiting. Myself and Dave Desmond guested for Evergreen, and in our eagerness were the first to arrive. Only to see a red trawler leaving after sweeping the area. The results for the day for Evergreen were two fish landed. There were over forty competent anglers out that day. I managed to win this competition with one sizeable whiting it did not afford me much pleasure. I wonder how much beer money this prat made with his boxes of doggies and undersize fish. Cork harbour is a vast area that should be a shining light in shore and boat angling, drawing people on holidays from all over the UK and beyond. If this sort of behavior by a few greedy ars*****s is allowed to continue. I see and end to our sport and tourism that it generates.  Chris
Come on the Irish!

chris (billy the bass)

Chris, I think you summed it up well. It gave me pleasure writing the front page story following your reports. What annoys me is when we see all the National Press "Waiving the Anti-Euro flag" as it is "Europe killing off our fishing", when really it's greedy fisherman like the one you quote who really is killing off both the fishing industry and the fishing sport !

Come on the Irish!

Comment About: The Site

Come on the Irish!  The Brits have plenty going on, on the net!  Get talking  we can all learn from each other send in some mail to this site!

Luke Scully

Thanks for your support Luke, if every visitor was to send in only one report a week, we would be adding 200+ reports per week and giving everyone a better picture of what's going on. Thanks for your efforts.

Fishing for bass, for eating is wrong....

Comment About: Fishing Quotas

Fishing for bass, for eating is wrong full stop.  Fishing for eating isn’t however. There are many animals including seals and gulls which eat fish and if you think of the small number of anglers who actually fish regularly and who actually catch fish this is not a big deal.  Its the fishing boats where the real problem lies.  Too many fish caught in nets and crushed and flung overboard to die because they are not the sought after species.  Fishing quotas should not be cut back until they seem reasonable, they should be cut back completely and then be given back some slowly when it seems the sea can cope and is able for increased quotas.  Until then fish stocks will continue to fall until fishing is no longer a profitable business and it will stop completely but by then it will be too late!

Luke Scully

Agreement level from Webmaster ..........100%

"Cod should be allowed to reach size..."

Comment About:  Fishing Quotas

I agree that the cod should be allowed to reach a size where they can reproduce and its about time we realised that taking so many cod kills a part of our sport that a lot of my friends have dropped out of over the years don't forget that when we visit the coast to fish we spend our money in the local tackle shops and most of us buy our worms and bits and pieces I spoke to one tackle shop owner on boxing day who told me that he had to open on that day due to a bad winter the reason being that because there were no cod about his trade was bad so lets remember that its about time we allowed our stocks to replenish for the good of our sport in years to come I hope we will still be able to go out on a winters day or night with at least the chance of catching a cod or perhaps we will be sitting at home remembering what it was like to go fishing if all our stocks are wiped out

BAZ

Baz ... You know the views of this Webmaster. It is essential that we have a sport to pass on down to our kids and our kids kids !

Superstore sells bargain price rods.

I wondered if the following info might be of interest to any one thinking of buying a rod. I went into my local super store, Decathlon in Surrey Quays shopping centre in Rotherhithe,  London and they have a sale. They have Grays rods,  the Apollo shadow, the Mercury and the Jupiter. Two of each model starting at £100 if this info is any good perhaps it will help.

All the best for the new year

BAZ

Sounds like bargains to be had !

Please place a report...

Hi guy's

Listen when you go fishing please place a report on the site it doesn't matter if you blank let us all know about it !!! You will be surprised how much you will refer to the report page once you have used it unfortunately no body on the Wirral except me seems to do this .
It's a great site and I use it all the time (new format taking some getting used to though !!) Just one more thing on the report thingy I used the report page to check out another area recently and planning a visit.

Tight Lines

Chris

Glad you like the site, once you get use to the new format, hopefully you should find the pages quicker to load and easier to read.. I keep trying to get more people to place reports, but it's hard work encouraging them !

Rubbish !

As I have said before.... TAKE YOUR RUBBISH HOME DON'T LEAVE IT ON THE
BEACH !. It causes the Wild Life trouble, Looks terrible and gets us a bad name

BAZ

Baz, You know my views, People who leave rubbish behind should have their tackle confiscated ! COME ON FELLOW ANGLERS - CLEAN UP YOUR ACT !!!

Godd site ....

Its a good site and I always look to see the updates. I do send in reports when I go out but would have sent in more if I had found the site early in the year.

BAZ

As a regular visitor who posts reports, we thank you very much for your support.

Love the site ...

I've just started on the internet so I've just found you.
I am the treasurer of the Desford Sea Angling Society and a sea fishing nut.
We charter boats (approx 6)in any 1 year and the experiance of the skippers is always brill, if you listen.
We also beach fish but today we are still learning, blank mostly but still love to be on the beach in winter with my rod out.
Well I love your site and hope to learn from it and maybe one day will be able to help the new ones to the sport.

Tight lines
John.E.Ashford.

Thanks John, Glad you found us and liked the site. Post us full details of your club and we can add it to our directory. If you want to post us the results of any matches etc. We will be glad to feature them.

Worms

Is it my imagination, or is it my eyes, but I am sure the lugworm sold in the bait shops around Norfolk are getting smaller. Last week I bought 100 worm, when I went to use them, most of them were no more than a inch long. Are they being dug to early or are the bait shops getting them cheaper but stil charging 10 pence each for them ?

Peter Cowles

Peter, I have got to agree, as a regular fisherman on the Norfolk coast I to feel that some bait shops are not playing the game.

Cod

I have fished the East coast Horsea area for over ten years and the stocks of cod are very limited at the moment.  In big matches I have seen anglers kill Codling under a pound.  Myself I end up putting more fish back into the sea as this gives me pleasure to know I am doing my bit for the environment and my sport.

It makes me cross to here of dead fish killed and discarded after matches, as my policy is to only keep a fish that can give me a couple of good sized fillets for the freezer, around the four pound mark.

If matches were policed properly by the people who organise them, then I feel that a catch, weigh and release policy is the best approach.  This may include getting another anglers to verify your catch.  Let's face it I have never fished a match on a beech were I have not received advise from more experienced anglers so getting verification should not be a problem.  We all love our sport and every effort must be done to save fish stocks.

Lee Kirk

Lee, could not agree with you more, have a look out the way the Americans do it, in our feature article Is  this an answer to declining fish stocks ?
