This is what you have had to say in the past....

Diary

HI!  I think it would be !GRATE! if you could put a little box on your web site so visitors can type into the box the date's and where they are planing to go fishing!!!!   It would be good to see where people are going to fish!
and then at least you wont be the only mad person standing in the rain.
THANKS!!!

I just thought it would be a good thing too do on your site!!!!!!

Could you please post a follow up on your site PLEASE. THANKS again.

Sounds like a good idea and something different, leave it with us.

Tide Tables

The Tide tables are poor because they are always behind, ie  in November , you still had October's tide times.

Firstly the tide tables are not part of Beach-Caster.Com, they are simply a link for convenience to fishing-reports.co.uk. It has been ruled "Illegal" for any one to publish tide tables on the net as the Hydrographic Office  have sole copyright. They have successfully sued three companies and had their sites shut down.

With regard to dates, what I have found is that sometimes the site has been updated, but your browser keeps looking at a file in your history, I have had same problem. Normally the site operator does update on time, so if you experience this problem clear your browsers history and then reload the page.

Chat Room

There never seems to be anyone in the chat room when I'm in.

I can only provide the service, publicise it etc. If people do not want to use it, there is not a lot I can do. Any ideas anyone ?

Piers...

Like the site - full of useful info especially the fishing reports.

Do you have a definitive list of piers which I could fish from, say from
Clacton round to Portsmouth?  I am sure that I would not be the only person
interested in this - perhaps you could ask for contributions from readers
to compile the list!

All the best, and keep up the good work, it is appreciated.

Glad you like it, idea of a list of Piers suitable to fish from sounds good, I will post up a form for visitors to let us know what piers are near them.

Kill all the Fishing Boat Crews

Just been looking at Billy the bass's site. My god they actually have fish down there.........Real fish! Dublin is such a cesspool ! Lets kill all the fishing boat crews!

Luke Scully

Long time no hear Luke !. Glad to see you are sticking to the moderate approach !

Maps

Kevin, I just found a site you may be interested in. it shows a map of co. Claire in Ireland that shows all the hot spots and all you have to do is cut and paste the information onto your site. it is pretty extensive and would make a great addition to your site for the Irish hot spots.

Another suggestion would be to have maps of Ireland and Britain and mark these hot spots on your map so if any Irish anglers are heading to the UK.. or visa versa and they fancy doing a spot of fishing they can just look at your map and see if there are any hot spots close to the region they are headed.
The site I was referring to is www.shannon-fishery-board.ie
even if you only put a link to this it would greatly enlarge the Irish hot spots section!
excellent site! Luke

Sounds a good idea, I will try and create this over the Christmas Break.

PS (Cutting & Pasting from other Web sites is not allowed because of copyrights.

Beads, Sequins, Spoons & Ratlers

All have some varying relevance to a drifting moving bait, when boat drifting or trolling mainly sand bank Plaice fishing). This is not relevant to beach fishing because baits mostly static. Visual attractors mostly useless adiphoria. Cocktail or kebab baits are same principle but work better for beach anglers. The silver of fish flanks or white of squid flesh is attractor with scent, cocktails get more and bigger fish if bait not moving.

Well done everyone!!!

Following your recent SHOUT for people to use the chat room i am pleased to say that on Tuesday there were about 1/2 dozen people visiting the room.
Not a bad start! Maybe you could arrange 1 or 2 days a week so we can concentrate as many as possible. Maybe just after the weekend so we can all talk about the last session. Or maybe just before, we might find out some of us will be fishing nearby or even the same venue. I will leave this one to you...
Anyway well done everyone and lets keep chatting.

Teo

Well lets try Tuesday nights @9.00 pm ?

Hi,

Just a quick e-mail to congratulate you on an excellent website. I found it on the ISAC website and spent over an hour looking at all the really useful info you have.

Keep up the good work.
Andy Taylor

Glad you like it.

Whys the Chat Room Empty ?

First of all congratulations for the good work with the site and thanks for previous advice.

have been joining the fisherman's chat room almost every day for the last 2 weeks for the "virtual club meet each day at 9:00pm", only to chat to myself... Is any thing wrong with the room or are people just not interested?

Glad you like the site. As for the Chat Room, I had several requests to set one up, now it's there no body seems to use it. COME ON EVERYBODY, get chatting !

Hastings Pier is Closed !

YOUR SITE SAYS HASTINGS PIER IS GOOD FOR FISHING, HOWEVER THERE IS ONE BIG PROBLEM AND THAT IS THAT THE PIER IS SHUT!!! PLEASE UPDATE YOUR SITE ASAP!!

Brian Gower

Oh dear, BLOCK CAPITALS, must be angry !. Sorry for any Duff information we can only post up what our visitors tell us. Information has now been updated.

Fishing Competition

Hi everyone I would like to suggest. A FISHING TRIP!!! for everyone some were in Dublin how about that. I think it would be grate!!!! so let's ask everyone!! Wright in and let's here what you think. Could Even turn out to be a BIG EVENT. OR A ...............BEACH CASTER !!!COMPETITION!!!

John Thompson

I tried to organise one last year, but only 5 people were intrested but, if you are intrested now, send me an e-mail now suggesting dates etc.

In reply to Lukes last comment.

The master angler is a competition that takes the top angler over a year, from every I.S.F.A. club in Ireland and over two days at a selected venue determines the best overall tournament angler in Ireland. Up until last week I did not belong to such a club (watch out next year). If Luke is coming down south (shudder) and if he contacts me before hand I will try to direct him to some decent fish. Including shore caught ray) though the season comes to a close for ray about now. Big Bren managed to get in the Twenty's in the Masters this year. Billy the bass.........

Thanks for the Info

Update Information

Think the update information by email is brilliant. Keep up the good work!

Ian Whiting

Only to glad to please...

First Time Caller...

First time I've seen the site. bloody good site, I've learnt more in the last thirty minutes about shore fishing, than I have since I took it up on 17-11-00.
keep up the good work, I will definatly be back.
time is of the essence, I am now going fishing (I only live 500yds from the beach in Southbourne on the south coast !!)
I'll let you know if the elusive cod are showing yet !!

All we ask in return,  is that you post us your reports and contribute to the site.

Luke rises to the challenge...

It is true I was not in yaughl. but to be honest I never knew it was taking place. myself and Edd would love a chance to fish in the south in the next month or two if anyone out there wants to point us in the right direction or better still, meet up with us. I have to see these decent size IASCS people keep talking about and as for shore caught Ray................ well you know our opinions there. if anyone out there would like to prove the existence of these phantom catches the get in touch with scullyluke@hotmail.com

More reports PLEASE

Kevin over the last few weeks i've been getting mails sent to me asking questions about pollack, dogfish, Bass etc. and i have been answering them explaining that we are all trying to help build up the site. but the thing is in the last year there are still too few new people writing reports in and we need more feedback about our fishing venues. please people give a little back, don't have a few people doing all the work!

oh yeah, you should split the hot spots into UK and Ireland as they are looking a bit muddled.

Great site kevin

oh and p.s. when is this bead poll gonna take place? (har har)

Luke Scully

Luke, your help is appreciated. With regard to the Hot spots, this section really has got "hot" over the last few weeks and I am planning to develop the index page soon, into regions.

And yes I admit, I forgot you "beading" survey. It will be here soon.... So keep stopping by.

Come on the North East, Post us some reports.

I've only just came across the site recently and found it to be of much interest. I'm from Hartlepool and fish a lot of the recognised and unrecognised marks as low down as Whitby and as far north as Sunderland. There doesn't seem to be many people from my region or anyone fishing any of the marks that I fish that have reported on your site. Its a shame really because I recon that this stretch of the northeast has sum of the best coast fishing in the country. With the little villages of Runsick bay and Cow bar having plenty of potential and plenty of reported double figure fish being caught each Cod season. The problem being that I can only fish a mark and judge its potential from past trips bringing into account the weather and sea movement etc...(lets face it there is nowt worse than fishing one place and blanking to find ten minutes down the road there bagging up) So I suggest that I put up your internet address on the wall of the local tackle shops asking people to write there fishing reports up and send them to you. Or you could give me a list of any people in the past that u know of to of fish this area that I could Email.

Thanks Paddy

Paddy, thanks for your help in publicizing our site, that what this site is all about, fisherman sharing information with other fisherman.

Its all a Big Lie...

I would like to make a rather bold statement. ITS ALL A BIG LIE! myself and Edd live in Dublin and we do not believe that big cod exist! we do not believe Bass exist! we don't believe shore caught rays exist nor big conger and we do believe that dog fish are the most plentiful and biggest fish in the sea.  myself and Edd are planning a fishing trip this winter which could be anywhere in the country. if Billy the bass or any of the Irish boys would like to prove us wrong then get in contact with us because the fishing in the Dublin area must be the worst on the planet!

Luke Scully

But Fisherman don't tell lies, Luke ! (Do they ?!?)

14" Cod...

Whilst the regulations stipulate that Cod should be at least 14 inches. These fish are too small to be kept by the leisure angler, there's nowt on them, so chuck them back and wait for big brother to come along.
Competition organisers could encourage this practice by increasing size limits at a local level. Remember every small fish taken never gets the chance to be that biggie every angler really wants to catch.

Gary  L

Where was Luke ?

Luke, with you being one of the best anglers in Ireland. How come you were not fishing the Master angler in Youghal? All the best anglers from Dublin were there were they not.

What the Hell.....

What the hell is the story with all you Dubs out there? myself and Edd Burke have been writing in reports for the Dublin area for zonks and you parasites out there have been reading them and the rest of this site but you never make any contribution to it. come on and give a little back are we talking to ourselves here? it only takes a couple of minutes!!!!!!

Luke Scully

Come on Luke, why don't you say what you mean !

Strong views,

With all these nice people from animal rights (yeah sure bunch of muppets) starting to give us some stick, and with the possibility of it only getting worse for the foreseeable future can I just raise a point that really annoys me and gives these Anti's valuable ammunition. When we catch fish (or should I say IF) WHY OH WHY Do we hold them up with the snood with the hook still through the lip so that we can take a photo. There have been some photos in various magazines magazine and others recently of huge hooks in fish's mouths that have caused tears in the mouth, perks left in mouths, red gills flies etc etc. Yet again we seem to give them an easy target and shoot ourselves in the foot just at the time when we can ill afford to. COME ON GUYS, yes catch the fish. Yes take the photo, but for God's sake TAKE THE HOOK OUT OF THE FISHES MOUTH and hold the fish correctly. DON'T GIVE THESE 'PEOPLE' MORE AMMO TO FIRE.

I hope you can publish this and draw some attention to it

Best wishes

Ian Bass
Blackpool.

Ian I fully agree with you, but after publishing you letter on our home page we never received one re-action, lets see if we get any comments now ?

Billy's Virus

Kev, just a quick note to any one looking for updates on my website, http://homepage.eircom.net/~fishy1tou Iv'e been laid low by a virus on my hard drive opened from an E-Mail titled (your loan has been approved) YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! I should be back in oppreational mode in a couple of weeks, all the best Billy the bass.......

Keep Taking the Anti-Biotics Billy, hope to see you back soon !

Wirral Sea Fishing

Nice to see we have the same people using our sites !! to add to your comment, the site was indeed inspired from your site and only because of the lack of reports for the area I had no idea that it would take off in the way that it has and is now the biggest and most up to date site in the
North West !! and as you know I am running the first Wirral sea fishing open, I am pleased that we can refer to each other and it would be better if other sites did the same but they all seem to want revenue back and are not really that bothered about the site with most using forums to keep the site going and for reports, indeed the way you and I keep the site updated seems to be uniqe and with the personnel touch. Tight Lines - Chris

Clacton Crabs

I live in Clacton on sea  in Essex just a 10 minute walk from the beach. Yours glen

What do you think this is some sort of Contact Page (Only joking)

Great site.

I've been looking for a fishing site like this for ages

Keep up  the good work.

And another satisfied customer

Keeps getting BIGGER...

Brilliant site by the way - like the idea that things just keep getting better.

That what this site is all about, the visitors make it grow

Hello Kevin,

Nice work, what else ? Nice work and that's it !
I was driven to your site by Billy the Bass, and many thanks to him to help me discover this site.
Real information, not much commercial (and it is an important point to me),open and clean. So, keep it tight.
This is just one "frenchy" point of view, but I support the UK/Irish fishing spirit as you present it on Beach-Caster.
For the next update of my webpage, I'll set up a link to Beach-Caster, let's the Frenchies know this site, we need that.

Many thanks Kevin,

America One Day, France the next, this site really is becoming international. Glad you like it and thanks for the link.

Wirral Sea Fishing

Do you also run Wirral Sea Fishing as both site's refer to each other a lot?

No, Chris was inspired by Beach-Caster.Com and decided to set up his own site. As we are both "Non Commercial" sites, we are glad to help each other out. To me thats what the spirit of the Net should be about.

Great site glad I found it
Just one point, the letter from the States about pleasure anglers being singled is not correct. I lived in BOSTON for 7 years and have fished commercially for "STRIPED BASS". This for many years has been limited to rod and reel only, with specific days for fishing each week and a strict quota which when reached means the end of the season. sometimes only 9days throughout the year. This system has worked very well although not popular must commercial fisherman understand and agree with it. I also have several friends who run draggers and they have been limited to 500lbs of cod per ten day period, which is not a lot considering you can get this amount in 2 haulbacks i.e 6 hours of dragging. My point is in some parts of the world commercial fisherman are doing their share.
I am also curious to know why the powers that be in this country need to spend a lot of money researching and finding solutions when they exist. Why not look at countries that are having good results and are starting to reap the benefits and copy what they are doing?

Great site Nik.

Nik, obviusly we can only go on what our overseas visitors tell us, thanks for the info (And compliments)

Fantastic

Hi - Fantastic site and makes very interesting reading for the beginner.  I couldn't believe my luck!

Ade

Glad you like it, kind sir.

Casting Clinic

Hi Colin  ..    Re Leo from Sheffield.    I have been shore fishing for some years and am willing to give him help with his casting if he wants it.  Ask him to get in touch with me if he likes.  I also live in Sheffield, so it shouldn't be too complicated.

Cheers ...        Danny (e-mail: DannyInstructor@btinternet.com)

Danny, Thanks for your help. (Kevin - Webmaster)

Hi Kevin
Just an idea for the chat room as I am fed up of talking to myself !! I suggest that we all set a time for the chat room meeting to start say 9pm each night onwards, that way we will have a chance of meeting up with others and not all going in there at different times.

Chris - Wirral sea fishing

Sound like a good idea to me... see you there !

Bored with Billy...

Comment:
Hi Kevin, As regards the chat room debates quiz nights and virtual club meets I have a small problem with that ,I only seem to get Billy the bass on the chat room and I would get more sense out of a bait bag than out of him and his range of knowledge is only based on the lesser known and most potent breweries, his quiz replies are always dulled by alcohol and need I saw more on the extent of his virtual expertise. Hope to see more people there.

Brendan Kenneally

Brendan, what I plan to to organise and advertise the diferant forums, quiz nights, debates etc. I will start this next week. The reason for the delay has been that I have been away on m hols. I leave the chat room permantly open, so if any one wants to meet up for their own chats, its there to be used. I am sure once we get this feature up and running it will be good.

No one in the Chat Room...

This chat line, I seem to be talking to myself. Since its been set up I've been in a dozen times and the only person I've got in touch with is big Bren. A disappointment in many ways! Come on get talking. Billy the bass.............

I fully agree Billy, it seems that lots are visiting the room but all at  different times. What I plan to do, probably starting next week is to arrange "Club meetings" in the chat room, starting at a set time, like that many should be their at the same time. I am also looking at holding "Virtual Debates" on different aspects of our sport. Let me know what you think.

Comment About: The Site

Dear Kevin,

Firstly what a great UK site!!! I have found the information contained very usefull. Keep the good work up as I am sure it is worth it.

You need to sort out your link on the page Advert-page-WANTED.htm for placing an add as the link titled Click here now for your free submission points to url: c:\my documents\my webs\fishing\site\Advert-form.htm

What can I say, I have waited months for someone to spot this deliberate mistake (Honestly, would I tell a lie, I'm a fisherman !). Thanks for spotting it, it is now corrected. Glad you like the site

Chat Room ...

Any chance of you setting up a chat room to discuss fishing topics

Colin

Sounds like a good idea, I will look who has the best service I can integrate in and will try and get one up in the near future

Itching for our sport ....

I am itching to get back into SEA FISHING after loosing contact with a mate who used to teach me the basics.  I have all my own gear and am delighted to find this site to help my confidence to become a better sea fisher.  Please keep this site going its a great help!!!  Any tips would be very greatful.  Mick (CHESHIRE)

P.S. Have done a lot of fishing in the last 10 years on and off around Wales

The best tip I can give you is to keep visiting this site, read all the pages and watch the reports as they are posted. Welcome back to the sport !

Perch, River Derwent, Don't sound like Sea Fish to me ?

Hi Lads ,
What a glorious day it has been ,we went fishing on the River Derwent , we caught six Perch , 2 were around the 2lb mark the rest were 4ins long we caught them on red worm ,the maggots were not the dish of the day for them , we had an enjoyable day ,

Yours faithfully Angela

There, See, Knew It, FRESH WATER, now I know why you get confused you need some Salt in your water. This is a Sea Fishing site. (But don't stop writing, we love to here from you)

Hi Colin, !!!!

Hi Colin,
Please give Kevin my appologies for not including him in my last reply , I'm going fishing on the 0use at Cawood on Sunday ,maggots and worms at the ready plus a bit of crazy bait ,I am after Eels And Pike .
contact you soon , Love to you  both. Angela(femme of the rod) Barszcz

OK, I am not going to get paranoid, BUT, lets get things clear. Colin writes a couple of answers, it is me KEVIN who sits hear hour on end, typing replies, creating HTML, so as you can veiw one of the best fishing sites on the net. And who does Angela thank .... COLIN.

SIGNED:-  KEVIN - THE WEBMASTER OF WWW>BEACH-CASTER.COM not COLIN who writes a couple of replies !

PS: Maggots, Pike this don't sound like Sea Fishing to me !

Thanks Colin ..... What about Kevin !?!

Hi Colin , Thanks for the advice on beach casting rods , I have sold the cheap one and purchased a much better quality rod ,which is more lightwieght and flexible and throws a decent
cast , I am very satisfied with my reel Okuma Hunter 80 , we shall be going pier fishing at Bridlington on Sunday I shall let you know what we catch , I aim to be a better femme of the rod , pardon the expression . Once again thanks ,regards Angela .

Great Colin, answers a bit of the question and gets all the praise, typical I wear my fingers to the bone, stay up to the early hours, creating and editing the site and who gets the praise, Colin !

OK so I am really pleased that Colin is now our Casting Consultant and I thank him for his contribution which is great, but come on the first "Better Femme of the Rod" at Beach-Caster.Com and who's name does she remember ..... COLIN !

Anyway, glad you liked COLINS reply, Regards KEVIN the tired out Webmaster.

Great site love the Humber to Thames feature....

One small prob the drop down box at the bottom doesnt seem to work. also you show Tackle n Tide as being the Local Shop to Lowestoft. But its in Great Yarmouth 12 Miles away???? not exactly local. Sam Hooks is the local store with all the News. 01502-565821

Thanks for the compliments, the drop down menu should now be adressed, Gremlins in the works....!

No Answer ....

I recently asked a question about Kimmeridge Bay (Q.93) and have yet to recieve any answers. But after much deliberation I decided, if I knew anything about it,I wouldn't want to tell the whole world and his rod either. So I'm trying a different approach, please E.mail me if anyone has any helpful advice, I would be eternally grateful!! I could exchange any information for some knowledge of the Bristol Channel. spencer.turnbull@btinternet.com

OK I will allow it this time, but Beach-Caster.Com is based on all Anglers sharing there information with all site visitors, not individuals !

Dividing Ireland up...

Hi Kevin , What about dividing the Irish section into the provinces i.e. Munster, Leinster, Connaught and Ulster.

Brendan Kenneally

Sounds like a good idea to me, it may take me a couple of weeks, but your wish is my command.

A dead killer whale was found floating in Cork  harbour this Sunday .

QUESTION: Was it the sight of Billy the Bass in shorts and t-shirt fisging off the peir in Camden that killed the poor creature?. I suppose the whale died of fright . POOR BEAST a terrible death

Brendan Kenneally.

Poor thing, all wrinkled up, disfigured and stinking of old fish.

Oh yes, it was a shame about the whale as well ! (Sorry Billy, could not resist the oppurtunity !)

Full Survey...

Luke Scully just suggested that you run a poll on the use of beads. Why not devote a whole page and make a survey asking questions as best bait for cod, flatties? Best time to fish? Most successful rig? Maybe you could break down the survey fish by fish. I appreciate that it will take a lot of work on your part but the results will also be very interesting. Also people who are too lazy to send in a fishing report might share their knowledge if all it requires of the is to tick a few boxes. People should write in with questions that would be appropriate.
Excellent site Kevin, keep up the good work.
Tog go bog e,
Ed Burke

Brilliant Idea Ed, let me get caught up from my not being well and I will get a survey page put up. Anyone have any particular questions then send them in now.

Maps, Wrecks & Reefs ?

If this boat thing takes off maybe you could create links to or show maps of parts of the coastlines of Britain and Ireland that might show water depths or more importantly reefs and wrecks! people spend ridiculous money on program's that are compatible with their GPS that show these wrecks location.  these reef areas would also be useful to shore fishermen as they could plan a weekends fishing etc. and better target their intended species.  think of the benefit for holiday goers to Ireland or England when they could plan just exactly where they want to go............for the right reasons.......

Luke Scully

This is sounding like a lot of hard work, but let me do some research and see how we go.

Boat Fishing Pages

Boat fishing or should I say charter boat fishing is something that all us Cork lads get involved in as the summer comes around and the beaches get scratchy, if you want reports, no doubt they will be forthcoming. With ratings on the skippers, boats and gear provided. Billy the bass...

Sound good to me, start sending them in ASAP and I will start the new pages.

Do beads work ?

Question:
I suggest another poll! do beads work? magazines etc. say they do but I think not! a pile of £$%%$$%^% as far as I'm concerned! two questions Q1: are you basing your opinion on common belief or what you've read? Q2: have you ever caught more fish with them? personally I've tried two hook rigs, one with and one without and always catch on the one without! magazines etc. can cause these things to grow into urban legends and people just start thinking they must be true cos everyone always says it! lets find out the truth................

Luke Scully.

You like your "Polls" don't you Luke ? But I am in agreement with you on this one, I will put up a poll in the next couple of days, the results would be interesting.

Just forget PETA, it will never happen.

Please stop worrying about this PETA crap! its not going to happen! there is no way they are going to ban commercial fishing- it's worth too much money to the economy of Europe! so you can't rightly ban someone from catching a humble fish when Johnny is catching thousands on his trawler and no one minds about that! so relax these people are just fanatics with too much money and time on their hands!

Luke Scully

Luke I wish I could agree with you, but read the article from a visitor from the USA, then say they won't ban leisure fishing and allow commercial fishing to continue.

Secondly the pages and articles about PETA have been among our most visited, so Luke you may want us to drop it, but a lot of interest is being shown by our visitors.

What's a Hotspot not ?

Comment about: The Site

Why don't you, at the site create a site guide or a fishing hot spot guide where people can just give a brief description of directions and the nearest shops and try and build up a good list of places to fish but don't influence people to write aload of crap about the nearest supermarket and stuff. Oh yeah and I agree with the two guys who think there should be a boat fishing guide I know it will take a lot of work but I reckon it will pay off.

Tom.

Sounds good to me, start sending in some of your "Hot Spots" and I will post a page. As for the Boat section, as I am not a boat fisherman I will need plenty of contributions from visitors, if they are forthcoming, then I will create the pages.

So to sum up .... "GET SENDING IN THE INFORMATION",  I have always said this is a site for fisherman made up from info from fisherman.

There is nothing like a personal letter from Wendy's Agent....... but that letter is not so personal after all.

Hi Kevin , I too have had the same reply from Wendy Turners agent !! so it must be a mass reply to the many emails that they received regarding the matter, as for butter melting in her mouth well she will just have to use Flora or something like that, I am at present trying to track down all this evidence that is against us Anglers but i think they have put the Russian,s in charge of it as it is possible to trace !!!! I will keep you informed if I ever find it
Cheers
Chris - Wirral Sea Fishing

Now why does that not surprise me. It's amazing what you can do these days with a Mail Merge program and as for that research, has anyone ever seen it ?

Some Praise, but could do better....

Comment about: The Site
Complaint: ON

We need a message board for instant reports PLEASE.
But some praise for the site KEEP IT UP.

Ant

Ant, in the very early days of Beach-Caster.Com we had a live report / message posting board, however it quickly became full of "C**p" and hoax reports. If you look at many sites that have this service you end up with pages of rubbish. Hence the system we have now. All is read before posting and the rubbish is filtered out. For example last week alone we had 34 "Crank" messages about everything from a report claiming to have hooked a killer whale off Scotland to "XXX" messages. So sorry the site will be staying at it is.

Closed season for Bass .

Something Chris (Billy) did not point out, the reason there is a closed bass season is because bass stocks were almost wiped out around Ireland,so now we have a closed season also a catch limit of two fish per angler per day and no comercial fishing allowed.

DAVID DESMOND

Thanks for the information, sounds like the type of thing we should do here in the UK.

Beach-Caster.Com - Boat Fishing page ?

Comment about: The Site

Suggestion

Myself and red Edd have just purchased a boat! although beach Caster.Com is a site for shore fishing, why not have a boat fishing section as well?  People who have boats could add allot of information to shore anglers as to where gullies are etc. by use of their fish finders and it would double the interest in the site. many people who own boats are seasoned anglers with a deep interest and thus is the reason for them having a boat, so these are the people we all want to have share their information so I think it make good sense. if you don't agree maybe we could run another poll

Luke Scully

I need to think about this one Luke, I like the idea in principle but can see it causing me a lot more work and the site name may be a problem.

Let me think and I will advise soon.

As for another Poll ...... eemmmmm !

Closed Season for Bass in Eire

Kev, in Ireland for the last few years. The spawning period for bass has been a glosed season this Year it is 15/5/01 to 15/6/01. Dose it work? the answer is yes!......... As for my own thing with the first bass, well that is often caught way before the closed season but I still do it. Billy the bass.......

Billy the Bass

Billy thanks for the info, this is a new one on me and a fact that many Sea Anglers are not aware of.

Let go your first Bass .........

It seems that I'm getting some flack from certain chaps regarding my habbit of letting go my first bass of the year. Its purely a superstition brought about by keeping a 6lb fish several years ago when I knew I should have let it go, and never getting another one all year. Are there any more like that out there.

Billy the Bass

Billy, now I am confused. In your report posted you asked " ........Why is it as soon as the closed season arrives so do the bass?" and then reported returning a "Out of Season Bass", now you say you always let the first Bass go and keep the rest. Please explain yourself to this confused Webmaster from the UK !

Piker to try Bass Fishing ...

Comment about: The Site

Good site, great info for someone like me new to sea fishing.
Liked the article on Bass fishing and going to give it a go, but disagree with the choice of rod. As a lure fishing piker the rods designed for this would make perfect bass rods.

Slim

Glad you like the site. Let us know how you get on with the Pike rod for the Bass. Once you get the "Sea Bug" there will be no turning back !

Apology

With regard to my Statement comparing you to Wendy Turner .........
I fully retract the statement and apologise for comparing you with her
We all accept that you put a lot of effort into the site, and it is also true that a fair amount is inputted through visitors to the site ( before you say it .. I am unable to fish that's why I have little input) but I do enjoy reading the reports from around the country and the news topics, I think that it is a fantastic site but would hate to see the adverts come rolling up on the screen every bleeding time I log on !!!! thanks for the speedy reply to my comment and again I RETRACT the statement about Wendy

Ernie

Apologies accepted and very pleased you like the site. Again I promise, NEVER will Beach-Caster.Com  have rolling adverts etc. on every page.

With regard to visitors input, that exactly what this site is all about and long may it last.

Adverts on Beach-Caster.Com

Comment_About: The Site

Complaint: ON

Whats This !!!! is this the start of Beach-Caster.com getting full of those adverts that annoy you when visiting sites ?,You have always said that this is a non profit making site and here we have the promoting of Comet and so on, Thats like Channel Four's Wendy Turner - Kettle,Pot& black are the words that come to mind !!!!
Sorry Beach - Caster this could loose you a lot of credability.............

Ernie

Ernie, DON'T PANIC, The site IS NOT and NEVER WILL BE full of adverts on every page. What I have done is set up ONE PAGE, which you can either visit or not visit. If you chose not to visit it, then Beach-Caster.Com remains exactly the same site, which I know many of you love.

With regard to the second point, Beach-Caster.Com will remain a non-profit making site, at the moment it is a LOSS MAKING site as time I pay for the ISP, Registration and Software updates to keep the site up to date, it is costing in the region of £300 per year, so to try and get a little money back will enable me to start running some simple competitions and hopefully pay towards the costs of setting up the first Beach-Caster.Com fishing tournament !

However if I was to make a few million from the site, maybe I just might change it to "Shark Fishing in the Bahamas.Com". But seriously, nothing sinister and I promise you the "Adverts" will only be on one page so they should not effect the site. The only "Advert" you will see on each page (Right at the "Bottom" is one which is placed there by "Hitbox" which is my site monitoring service. The information I get from their service helps me improve the site and get free submission to all the leading search engines.

And finally, as for comparing me to Wendy, are you serious ? Everything I am doing is to improve the site and make Sea Fishing even more enjoyable. I put into this site approximately Three hours a day, for which I get and ask for NOTHING !  So a retraction please ?!?

Good for a laugh, but "NO"

Re: Luke and Edd. I'd just like to add , that although I voted a big No to the lads getting there own spot on the site, when the banter started I thought it was a good laugh. No doubt as it was meant to be seen. Perhaps an Irish corner might work? And maybe not, after all we are all anglers and its only one site. If its a good laugh you want, I still recon a tournament is the biz. Billy the bass........

The idea of a tournament has not gone away, but we only received four positive responses, so I plan to re-launch the idea later in the summer, hopefully with some incentives that will make it more appealing.

Luke says "YOU OWE ME BIG TIME", what do you think ?

May I just say I do not appreciate the latest words being said about the rivalry between myself and Edd Burke. Don't get me wrong I think this is a great site but I see no harm in a bit of banter. I was always under the impression that this was a site 'for fishermen by fishermen' not some super serious place for super serious fish people who in my opinion should stick their rods somewhere less obvious to the average eye!  so myself and Edd have a little rivalry going on so what. you can't say you weren't interested in the mails as they flooded in but may I also say one last thing, if you check YOUR facts you will find that there has not been as much heed paid to any other mails on this site as 'THE BITTER FEUD BETWEEN LUKE AND EDD' so it just goes to show you some people find it interesting!!!!!!!-and so for all you out there who agree with me we pledge to you we will never stop and will plague your lives forever! Lets put it to the vote "YAY" or "NAY" do you want to hear more from Luke and Edd or not, lets have a vote if the answer rests at "YES", Kevin has to give us our own section on the site!

Luke Scully

Luke, lets answer your points, point by point:-

I too like a bit of "Banter", but I have got to say, some of our visitors were saying, enough is enough, hence me saying " ... In the meantime, this will be the final episode of the Luke v Edd war to be featured on Beach-Caster.Com. .... Unless our visitors tell me they want more !". I am still waiting for any replies.

This is a site for fisherman, by fisherman and always will be !. That covers EVERY aspect of our sport, serious and jovial.

Yes, we did enjoy the e-mails back and forth and still do, but remember, many say too much of a good thing can turn it sour (Or boring)

The comment "Check your facts" was referring to a totally different subject, i.e. You suggesting that I never posted any reports !

And finally, the idea of a poll vote sounds good to me, so here we go:-

Luke Scully v Edd Burke

Should we continue to feature the feud between Luke & Edd

Should we give Luke & Edd their own page to battle it out ?

Is Brendan swinging the lead ?

Comment about: Other Fishermans Habbits

Bren! last seen alive and as well as can be expected in the pool room of the Silver Goblet. No doubt due to his sickness he managed to get beaten by an 11yr old.

Billy the bass....

Ah, good to see our good wishes worked so fast !

Get Well soon Brendan.

Just a get well sooner to Brendan. We really missed him today. A competition is not a competition if we can't slag him about blanking. Even if he doesn't.
Come back soon.

We are sorry to hear that Brendan is not too well, hope he is feeling better soon. Best wishes for a speedy recovery from all at Beach-Caster.Com

Visitors from the USA

Comment about: Our Sport

Praise: ON

Hey Everybody
I'm an American (Yank) and to me this is a wonderful site dedicated to the shore bound angler.  I'm impressed what the Uk has to offer for the shore angler (tackle wise).  I went to London over the summer on a school trip and had to sneak out to some wonderful souvenirs for beach fishing in the USA( a Beach caster rod and reel combo and every piece of terminal tackle I can get my hands on).  I had a bit of an  ordeal bringing all this stuff home back to the states.  The stuff i bought helped me catch a lot of fish.  I have one bad thing to say.  In the USA we are starting to figure out that are fish stocks are getting depleted too.  What steps are your country doing to solve this problem. Our country is placing fishing bans up the East Coast for us recreation guys not the commercial guys.  What a crap.

Harry A.

Harry, at last here in the UK the situation over fish stocks is being taken seriusly and policy's are being looked at. For the first time ever the EC commision has actually asked for comments from fisherman, both Commercial and Recreational. We thought our EC policy's were crazy, but yur story of stopping recreational, but allowing commercial really takes some beating. I presume the Senator that got that one passed, was not a fisherman !.

A question for the webmaster:

You continue to ask if people will submit reports..........do you fish yourself?
and if so why no reports from you?.................

Luke, before you start to criticise, check your facts again! Yes I do fish (When I have chance) YES I do post reports, look at East Anglia ! The rest of my time is spent building this page for people to pick holes in !

We are not responsible !

Hi Kevin. I hold you in no way responsible for the moanings of the Insane and demented. And rather than suffer from "Scullitis" I will refrain from reacting to this slanderious attack on my virtu other than to comment on Indian givers and I`m not sure "Billy " could count to twelve with his hands in his pockets!

Brendan Kenneally

OK Brendan, Glad to hear that. (Anybody know what he is on about ?!?!

No sympathy for Brendan.

In response to my shy and QUIET friend Brendan, I could'nt hurt him with a harpoon.
Tight line,
Colin Philpott
(Yes I do own a sage which he had no problem borrowing).

Kev I was deeply touched by Brendans comment, but to get the full effect of his woefull frame of mind I suggest that a dozen violins accompany the text with a lone piper (playing the anglers lament} in the foggy distance. Billy the bass.....

That's what I like about our visitors from Ireland, All Heart. !!!!

Here we go again .... (Oh no we don't !)

Complaint: ON

O K yes it is I. I am back again to plague your lives again! I must first say that Edd burkes report on the 10th of April is complete falsehood! I caught those two fish in Greystones and not Edd and it was he who bought the stand and insisted on using it on the beach!  you see my blank streak seems to be coming to an end while Mr. Burkes seems to be only starting so you see he is just trying to put me down cause I beat him on Friday! so Edd (look at my second hand tripod) Burke let it be known this is only the beginning of your downfall! I had you fooled for a while if only to raise your confidence but now I am striking back and it SHOWS you are beginning to fear me! let the games begin.............

Luke Scully

OK Luke, so you caught the fish, But Edd submitted the report ! We all thought (And hoped) the feud was over.  Instead of slagging each other off. If you are both the best fisherman in Ireland, why don't you write us a feature and share you expertise with the rest of the visitors at Beach-Caster.Com. In the meantime, this will be the final episode of the Luke v Edd war to be featured on Beach-Caster.Com. .... Unless our vstors tell me they want more !

Sorry we have HURT you Brendan...

Hi Kevin
I think it is terrible that a site like yours allows a quite, shy, out standing angler in many aspects of fishing {sea ,trout and pike} to be abused by the likes of Colin ( I`ve got a sage) Philpott and "Billy the Bass" and never mind "The Dammed" Dave Desmond. I need only say Jellousy is a terrible thing.I am hurt .  Tight lines .

Brendan Kenneally

Brendan, As I have said many times before, we only publish what people tell us, we may agree with the content, we may not. Please don't take offense.

Tide Tables

Comment about: The Site

Please update the tide tables, it's now the 10th April, you're still showing March and with Tidetimes web site down we rely on other sites to give us the tables, please can this be updated as forward planning of fishing trips are hard.
Apart from that great website

Danny

Danny, as you are probably aware Tide Tables are the subject of several court injunctions being issued. For this reason we do not publish our own tide table, we simply offer a link to authorised sites. Our initial link was to Tidetimes.com, however this site was shutdown for copyright infringement. We have provided a new link to Fishing-Reports.co.uk who were publishing tide tables. The fact they have not updated may be a sign that they too have been shut down. I will contact their Webmaster to find out.

IMPORTANT FOLLOW UP.

I am pleased to advise that the site we are linked to has not been shutdown. I have checked out the site and April's Tide Tables are up and appear to have been up since 1/4/01. Try a page "Refresh"

Best Fishing site on the Web

Comment about: The Site

Comment:
Kevin this is the best fishing site on the web. Thanks for putting so much effort into it. For the  Cork lads out there, I took Big Bren, Rainbow trout fishing last Saturday so that He could go fishing for once and not fear blanking. He must have enjoyed himself as he's gone to the Corrib this weekend. I'll be Fishing for Ray tomorrow. I'll let ye know how I get on.

Colin Philpott.

Thanks for the compliment, it's what makes it all worthwhile. Good luck with the Ray fishing

Yes I'm back again to rain a torrent of abuse to all of you out there from the Dublin-Wicklow area who do not write reports or comments  and just USE this site and don't give anything back!  I hate you all! For this great crime I am putting the great Celtic sea curse on you all! May you all die in some horrible way and may you all fall in the sea without your floatation suits. May all your fish be small and all your bait die prematurely! May you be doomed to watch re-runs of old Simpsons episodes for all time and be exposed to Barbara Woodhouse's Great comeback! You have been warned.......

Write reports in now or I swear I will continue to write this sort of cr*p  FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Luke Scully

I fully agree with Luke's intent, but I think he has been on the old fire water again. Anyway, come on everybody, shut Luke up by posting some reports!

Cr*p Corner, on this site ?

Comment About: The Site

I  have an idea for a new section for the site! it is called 'the cr*p corner' this area can be used for people to debate what they think is just fallacy or real truth about fishing. I mean we all know that half of the tips and so on we receive from magazines etc. are utter rubbish.  For example a fish in my belief does not care if a bait looks pretty or not. it just smells food and says I'm hungry! I have a pond with koi at home and I've experimented.  Do beads really work? or would the fish have taken the hook anyway? With this area on the site we could prevent people being lead down the garden path by companies just looking to make money and stop these stupid rumors about this little thingy being the bees knees for catching bass etc. when really it's a load of CR*P-thus 'THE CR*P CORNER'

Luke Scully

Sounds like a good idea, but a lot of these tips are down to personal feelings, so what you think is cr*p , someone else may think works well. But I do agree some of the gadgets we see are simply "CR*P"

PS. Sorry about the "*" but "CR*P" is a banned word in the IFSA listings and I do not want to lose our rating !. So we would have to think of a more politically correct page title !

Role Models who think they are above the law.

Comment About: Our Sport

Comment:
Great site. My problem is our so called role models. I am refering to the select few (they think so anyway) We know who they are. They can regularly be spotted along Monkstown and other places. They are generally speaking good card carrying members of the IFSA. However during a critical time in our country when fishing was  well known to be banned, they decided they were above the law and in doing so might have wrecked the good work of some of us that are trying to get the politicans to recognise our plight. To them I say - Thanks for showing what caring law abiding conservationist's  we anglers are. For the people see you breaking the law and we are all tarnished with the same brush. If you are so good why do you need to wreck our chances of a better and more productive sport.

Colin Philpott

Crosshaven Sea Anglers Club.

Colin, as far as this site is concerned, anybody who fishes when they should not, walks where they have been told not to or does anything else that may increase the risk from FMD should be be prosecuted and fined with the heaviest panalties permisable. In Ireland the prompt action appear to have controlled the disease. If these idiots want to see how devastating FMD is, let them come over and take a look at mainland UK.
