Ardmore

14th June 2003 Time: Day

Evening visit to the Burnt fields with Dec & Pat, warm & sultry ....... and the weather was nice too. Calm wind, little sea movement, incoming tide, silky sea surface with broils and ripples showing fish moving and feeding along the shore.  Spinning with light rods and homemade plugs, first cast, bang! three pound bass for Dec followed quickly be another large schoolie on Pat's line.  Both returned.  Moving along the rocks, casting to movement and into channels produced a total 17 bass between us with 3 over 8lbs and the rest between 3 and 7. In between pollack showed up in a schooling frenzy while mackeral dodged the packs of bass racing through the narrow channels.  Not a bad bit of fishing at all.  Will have to rise the Scot on this one!

Fished balliwilling last night on a comming tide, from 3am till dawn at the stream end. 2 flounder 2 doggies and a pouting was all I landed. Though I missed at least two big thumps, no sign of any ray yet but it must be getting close to that time. All the best Billy the bass.

Cheekpoint / Passage

20 October 2002

Fished an Open Comp from 3-7 on a coming tide. Gales and driving rain all day didn't help.

Lots of undersized fish, flats and eels with a few small codling. Crab baits dropped short seemed to work best.

13 June 2003 Time: Day

The refurbished promenade was officially opened today and I was abble to fish my favourite spot for the first time in months. However, there was little action in the two hours I fished up to high tide with only one small Pollack taken on a shrimp lure.  Hopefully things will improve, if the good weather continues.

Fort Camden

15 September 2002 Time:Day

Dam Dave and I fished Camden this morning at low water, useing lug sandeel razor and mackerel. For the first hour we had nothing (with 4 rods out) but as the tide started to run we eded up with a mixed bag of dab, rockling, garfish and dogs and of course mackerel. A good morning,

11 August 2002 Time:Day

Had a weekend with herself in west Cork, so fishing took second place, but a couple of 2 hr sessions before breakfast were snatched. I had fantasised about large rock bass nosing in and out of the rocky gullies and bays, but in the end, as usual, I caught only pollack. However, they were the biggesd I've caught - from 4 -6 lb - not bad from the shore. They all went back, but for one to the B&B lady who said pollock were going for over €100 a box. Do people actually buy pollock to eat?

Inch Beach

11 August 2002

Fished Inch this morning on a comming tide, lovely surf showing but also bringing in rafts of weed which made fishing impossiball. Ah well! I nipped round to Cobh and had a few micro pollack who gobbled up my hard dug lug. Billy the bass.....

Kilmore Quay

18 April 2003 Time: Day

Our second boat competition of 2003 was held in Kilmore Quay Co Wexford on Good Friday 18th April.
We fished from two charted Boats the Enterprise: Skipper Dick Hayes and the Celtic Lady 11: Skipper John Deveraux.
Weather was quite windy and plenty of swells, which restricted the areas we wanted to fish.
Fishing was scratchy and a bit of hit and miss. Early indications pointed to a poor days fishing, but it improved slightly later in the day.
We had a total of fifteen senior and one junior anglers fishing.

Verdict: Poor Days Fishing.

Best Bait on Day: Rag Worm.
Worst Bait: Mackerel
Total Species: Coalie, Cod, Pollack, Pouting, Ballan Wrasse, and Cuckoo Wrasse.
Total Fish Caught: 197

12 April 2003 Time: Day

Kilmore Quay Saturday 12/4/03.
Aboard two charter boats.
Weather was fine, sun shone all day, mild S.E. wind and gentle swell. Fishing was a bit slow at times but when the fish did appear they were good sized fish. Eight different species were caught on the day, they were: Ballen Wrasse, Cuckoo Wrasse, Pollack, Coalfish, Cod, Pouting, Ling and Monkfish. Two (2) Irish Specimen Ballen Wrasse were caught, one to Jason Colman (junior) and the other to Bert McGregor (senior) these were weighed on shore and are been forwarded on to the ISFC. One (1) small monkfish was caught by Damien Warren which was a rare sight in these waters.

Monkstown

19 October 2003

Myself and Damn Dave fished the wall this morning from 7.30am with fresh peeler and razor. Although it was only a small tide we had codling, whiting and loads of pout. When we finnished there were 18 lads spaced down the wall. I wouln't say it was great fishing but it was incouraging. Billy the bass....

9 February 2003 Time:Day

We heard the whispers, but were they true. Was there a late run of fish in Monkstown. The answer is yes, though not too many cod. Whiting and dab to near specimen size were caught by Damn Dave and myself. Useing lug and razors at distance we bagged up on good fish two hours befor high water. there seemed to be so many fish that any cocktail of baits were doing the job. After a poor year so far: Thank God!

13 October 2002 Time: Day

First ever posting. At the pier as the tide ebbed, mainly to try out a new reel. Nothing showing apart from a small flounder on the last cast using a mackrel/sandeel cocktail. Passing the wall, on the way home, one guy had a couple of decent sized pollock or cod (couldn't slow, cops behind me). Trying Clon at weekend with a couple of pros, will report.

Tramore

2 November 2002 Time:

Fished an Open Comp on Sat 4-9pm. Gale force wind on a dropping tide was a recipe for disaster as the poor results showed. Several small coalies and a few Flounders with a couple of small Bass and Codling were caught. Not by me though!!!!! Disaster!!!!!!!!!!

Keith

5 October 2002

Fished the dropping tide from 6pm to 10pm

small surf no wind. At darkness fell couple of missed bites but then small whiting appeared close in to lugworm. Distance casting produced a couple of small coalies. An angler further up the beach caught AND RETURNED a small Bass. Hopefully the bigger fish will start to show soon. Reports that the Bay area is full of Ray and Blue Shark (400yds offshore).

Waterford

12 August 2003

We arrived at Newtown cove at 8:30pm. expecting plenty of mackerel having seen them being caught the night before. First cast caught us a mackerel, soon followed by a little coalie, but better was to follow! About 15 mins later my dad reeled in his feather rig(6 hooks) which held 6 nice mackerel(he had a job landing them and was helped by a fellow angler who retrieved them). Unfortunately one fell off the hook but we were well pleased with 5 plump mackerel. The large full moon seemed to be smiling down on us as we landed another coalie soon after.A great evenings fishing  and all in about an hour and a half. After our previous experiences at Greystones we felt we deserved some luck.

8 September 2002 Time:Day

Fished 3 hours on an incoming tide and Blanked - not so much as a bite - I must be doing something wrong. There was another guy fishing close by and he also had no lock.

28 October 2002

Youghal Quays,

Fished 1 hr ebb, 3hours incoming tide. Conditions were not ideal as the water was coffee coloured and the tide run became to strong to hold the bottom, despite been only a moderate tide. A few small whiting, but we got some nice coalies approx 2lb on crab and mackeral. One small founder and after dark we picked up 2 codling on crab and squid, again approx 2lb.

Noel

18 August 2002 Time: Day

Lots of Flounder, no great size most taken on peeler crab or peeler lug cocktail. Water full of sprat at full tide. The mackeral must be coming.
