Blyth

9 February 2004 Time: Day

Fished Blyth Harbour from 3pm until around 6pm. Not a thing doing all afternoon. Used Rag and Black Lug to no avail. Even the crabs didnt bother to steal the bait.Sods law though, the last time we were there we ran out of bait when the whiting were biting, this time we had plenty bait having been given some by a little lad and his dad who had had enough and were going home.We are going to try a different venue next time out because this place just isnt coming up to expectations.

George Gray

19 October 2002

Was not fishing myself but there were 20+ fish caught from Blyth beach Saturday night .the lads found a hole created by these heavy seas lately, and they all had fish out of it .mainly codling didnt find out the weights of the fish but no doubt there, l of been 1 or 2good ones among them. fishings been good up in Tynemouth and Northumberland these last few weeks due to these long spells of heavy seas. ABOUT TIME ASWELL MIND ,THINGS ARE LOOKING UP.

Lucas Gooderson

1 August 2002 Time: Day

I fished near the leisure centre and it is the first time I have ever been there and got white washed not a fish to be caught but the problem was not the bait not the reel not the rod not the line or anything like that there was speedboats coming up to 50yds in these are a constant problem down Cleethorpes and I think they should keep well out of the anglers way there nothing but a pest there all right when they're not snapping you off all the time and churning up the water near you're leader you politely ask them to move and they just carry on so does any one know how the law stands on this or are you just better off filling them in!!!!!!

Lucas

4th July 2002

Scarborough

3 May 2003

We begun fishing on the end of east pier at 4pm 2 hours and 18 minutes before tide. I was pulling out tons of undersized codlings and flatties (MAINLY DAB) All on ragworm tipped with welsh blacks (BLOWN). Then later on my friend pulled out a huge whiting that i thought would be well over 2lb. But because it had just spawned it weighted 1lb 3oz. I pulled out another decent sized dab which i kept and a small coalfish. Then my friend sat down only to see his rod been pulled and pulled. He picked it up and reeled in the small piece of slack. He was only using a two hook flapper (2/0) fitted with sequin attractors. Each hook had just one ragworm on. Out came a codling that weighed nearly 2lb 7oz. However our other friend jake only pulled out 1 small codling all day. Personally, I think its the smallest i have seen. Unfortunately it was raining a lot but the big fish encouraged us to fish on. Nothing seemed to be biting after the cod made it's appearance so we called it a day. As we walked home at 9:15pm nearly 3 hours after tide. My friend was keen to show off his whiting and cod to all the other anglers fishing the rock. One older fellow said you should have put the cod back. But as it measure 40cm and was very plump. It was table worthy. (THINK HE WAS JEALOUS CAUSE HE'D ONLY HAD 1 LITTLE WHITING) Anyway a good night was had by all of us. Shame I only got the one large dab, but it was fun

Lonscar Rock

Fished over low water using ragworm and aniseed caught 1 undersized codling and half a crabpot of all things. The sea had just calmed after a couple of days of northelies which had left alot of weed floating around causing chaos but my mate who was fishing with me lost a good fish on the wind in due to the rocky outcrops in all we had a few bites but only the one fish to put back and a crabpot which weighed in at about 9lb.

Jimmy S

24 January 2004

(Longscar rock area)

Fished 3 1/2 hours before low water til 1 hour after plenty of action with small codling which was a good sign. Then about 2 1/2 hours into the session a slackliner a couple of minutes later a codling about 3lb.
The night itself brought many small codling and a couple of small whiting i was using ragworm with a brush of aniseed on which i caught the fish.
I have heard reports of lots of small fish being caught at high tide from the staincliffe with the odd bass showing up but nothing to write home about.
the recent strong northerlies we r getting should bring the codling back onto the beaches over low water. with the local piers benefitting also.

South Shields

5 December 2002

Pier

Started at 20-00 at the 44 mark. Not many fishing. Not much sea running but a cold NW wind dropped tempatures nicely. My mate stool warrior got first fish with his first cast a dab of about 8 to 10 ounces. I followed with a 1and1/2 pound coddling, then got third fish of night a 12ounce whiting. Stool warrior got fourth and last fish of night another dab slightly bigger than first.

All but coddling were returned to see, and all fish were caught on worm baits.

With big seas from tomorrow, a trip to Cullercoats on Sunday looks definate.

31 October 2003
