| To
all the southern Corkonians. |
| Hope you enjoy Kerry and the
Bass. myself and the bird killer would have liked to have
joined you but the the feather pluckers baby has her
christening this week end so it just happened to collide with
the same date you were planing your camping trip. we may pop
down again for a week end or maybe if you are planing a second
trip to inch or whatever let us know. in any case good luck
with the Bass..........

has Returned !!! |
|
Hi there, a message for the fishing contingent
down south.......Billy the bass etc. myself and edd the bird
killer burke are getting a new engine fitted on the boat this
week and so hope to be getting out with many a fishy tale very
soon as for big brens site, it sounds great and i will be very
interested when it takes shape. maybe he might have a tiny
small section for us up here in the CAPITOL......... in any
case as far as the shore fishing go's we have not been getting
out much as most spare time has been spent sorting things out
with 'Grim Reefer'(the name of the boat) as well as the
weather being an utter sham. 27 days in a row with constant
rain. the worst May in recorded history! hope to be out soon
anyhow and will let all know how we get on.

Noise
from the North |
'the noise from the north' eh chris? is that an
official title? hmmm........
|
|
Where's
Luke Skully gone? |
|
Since
his visit down south not a word has been heard from the noise
from the north! Big Bren is opening a boat fishing site about
the harbour and county, we wait with baited hooks.

Job well done Kevin |
|
I have to say a job well done Kevin, with out
your site myself, Chris and Brendan would never had met up
with the lads from Denmark or Luke Skully, meeting Eric and
the rest of the guys was good fun and well as for Luke that is
a weekend to remember. Thank you
That's exactly what this
site is about and I am glad you appreciate it.

|
I
was going to post this up in the action reports, |
|
I was going to post this up in the action
reports, but seeing that most of the action took place in the
dance hall of the pine lodge hotel and is best not reported on
the net. I refer to ; of course the Jerry Hurley open with
guest angler Luke Scully. I would like to report that it was a
dignified affair with good fishing in splendid surroundings. I
would like to report that but the truth will out! First of all
there are no bloody fish in Cork harbour at present due to
unmercifull trawling by the greedy and ignorant few, also the
potting of shore crabs( taking away the natural food for most
fish). So our first two hours fishing were a waste of time
exept for a sea trout caught by Damn Dave spinning before the
comp started.
Next we moved to Fountainstown picked because of its
closeness to Jerry's mobile home and not for its fishing
reputation. There the cream of the anglers rose to the surface
and the best man won the day.
What is Luke Scully realy like in the flesh I hear you say?
well for anyone to come alone for a week fishing with only a
tent for company, you would have to say a complete looney! a
looney with a lot of bottle I say. We had a great day out and
night and I dropped Luke over to youghal this morning at
7.30am ( not bad after a maratheon card game till 4.30am)and I
hope he catches his shore caught ray, bass, and conger. Time
to hit the sack, all the best Billy the bass,Damn Dave,Big
Bren,Rob Porter,Fizz, Stan Murphy,Jerry Hurley and of course
Luke Scully.
|
|
Thank
you.... |
|
I just want to say a big thank you
to Kevin and this site. this weekend I am heading down
to cork to do a weeks fishing in the area and see if all these
rumors are true about shore caught Ray, Conger and Bass.
hopefully I will catch at least one of these species during my
trip. but I never would have arranged to meet up with the cork
lads had it not been for this site so I want to say a big
thank you for a wonderful site that has succeeded in doing
what it aims to do. Keep it up.
Luke Scully
Thank you
Luke, your appreciation is much appreciated.

5 - 7 year
Pattern ? |
|
I`ve
fished the N.E. coast for nearly 30 years now and have come to
the conclusion that although there has been a huge reduction
in fish stocks there seems to be a pattern by which you can
predict a good season. So here it is, the following seasons
were mega 1976,1983,1988,1993,2001 so wheres the pattern,it
runs in either 5 or 7 year cycles and only after a hot summer
so the next one should be in 2006 or 2008. Does this only
happen on the N.E. coast. Even in the non mega seasons there
are still cod to be caught up here so give it a crack.
|
|
Luke has a
surgestion |
Kevin I was just thinking that on this site we
are harping on about the decline of fish stocks etc. and we
always try to encourage other anglers to do their bit. yeah?
well if we could show records over the years gone by of both
commercial and recreational catches perhaps people looking at
this site might be shocked and take it all a little more
seriously and do that little bit to make this sport more
recognised...........just a suggestion.
Sounds like another good
idea, I will do some research and see what I can come up with.

To
the Vikings, ... |
|
Lads for some reason we (Damn
Dave, Big Bren and me) for some reason thought you were coming
to Kerry last month and organised a trip ( re: our trip to
Fenit) to coincide. E-Mail Bren and we will give you a number
to ring, and try to get down on the May bank holiday IF OUR
WIVES ARE WILLING TO LET US GO! Billy the bass.......
P.S.
Re comment about Ringabella I
don't think that such a seasonal mark would be harmed by my
article. I believe in telling the truth about fishing in the
harbour good or bad. Nice to know it was read.....
Billy, I
think the Vikings were from Scandinavia, I am sure it was the
Danes that come from Denmark. Mind you I never did listen to
my history teacher.
|
|
No
publicity.... |
|
I was in two minds when I saw
the article on Ringabella - delighted to see my local
fishing spot mentioned but undecided as to the publicity.
In the end I'm more delighted
than undecided.

baseis my buddie Jerry Hurley's mobile home in Fountainstown.
Phone me at work Cork4892678 for details. Ask for Chris.
All the best Billy the bass.

| I'm
Back ! |
|
I'm
back! yes well I've not had access to the net for a while but I'm
back now and I am still planning my trip to cork. I have tried
contacting Billy the Bass but without luck. checked his web
site and consulted maps but I fear many of your fishing
locations are a bit hard to reach unless you are driving. Billy
if you could tell me which ones I could realistically go for.
the train to Cork only goes as far as Cobh so is there buses I
can get to these locations or is there any other information
you could supply me with?

A few years ago I fished Crookhaven, near Maidenhead
at the southern tip of county cork. I was in a tent at Crookhaven
camping and caravan park. There's a small sandy cove beside campsite. I
fished from the rocks on the right as you look out to sea. I
caught good Pollack and wrasse on a trout rod using limpet as
that was the only bait around. [I was a trout fisherman then
just trying to keep the kids amused at night]. I would say a
pro like you could do well there. I went by car, so I don't
know about trains etc.hope this is helpful.

Ex

|
|
Hello again from [ex flyfisherman from belfast],
called Billy H from now on.Hopefully making my shore fishing
debut on saturday 2/3/02.Ive bought a caravan in castlerock,
on the north coast, and will be fishing most weekends, work
permitting.I will report any results and news from that area,
as i hope other visiters to this site do the same. Ive did
some deep sea fishing before, and im looking forward to this
change of tactics. The first problem i will encounter is, my
caravan is 300mtrs from beach and berthas pub is only
100mtrs away. Should i try a different route? Regards Billy H
Sitting in front of a log
fire with a pint of berr in front of you, or down on a cold
wet and windy beach, praying for a bite. No contest !. Get
down to that beach and have some fun ! |

I
would gladly pay a few quid |
Having just passed my driving test I am now in
the position to drive myself to the coast without the missus
having to drive me.
While looking for BS free sites I came across this one
well done ,
plenty of everything and no mention of trout or carp anywhere
I would gladly pay a few quid for a magazine version
Glad you like it ...

Fly fisherman with Determination ! |
| Ex fly fisherman here from Belfast. I'm
taking up shore fishing, when spring comes. I find your site
very useful. Its informative, amusing, and I'll be an avid
follower from now on. With your help I will hopefully reach
casting distances of 20mtrs, or even more. Keep up the good work.
I'll be back.
That's determination,
Casting distances of 20 mtrs, I am sure if you e-mail our
Casting instructor, Colin, he will be able to get you casting
a lot more than that !
Anyway Glad you like the
site !

| Big
Bren is a very annoying and irriatating man |
| Although big Bren
is a very annoying and irritating man to fish with I have to
thank him on taking me to the competition on Sunday. during
the comp there were a lot of fish caught including cod, flounder, coalies
and much more. All day Brendan was cribbing about how much he
does not want to blank. For the second half of the day I
persisted on teasing him cause I caught cod (which managed to
take me to victory) and he had nothing but just about to set
sail for home and a big yell comes from Brendan he caught a
whiting he was over the that he did not blank but no prize for
Brendan better luck next time.
KIERAN LYNCH!
|
Why was
Brendan so worried about blanking ? We would not tell anyone,
would we !
|
| All
Colin has to do to see a Kompressor in action is..... |
To jump on a plane and come
over here to Cork.
Then he can help me to improve
my atrocious casting action. You could always stump up for it
in the name of research and P.R.
I wait in joyful hope
Brendan.
Oh yes
Brendan and in the name of research & PR, we will fly
Elvis Presley over too, may be on the back of a flying pig !
Keep
dreaming !
Webmaster
What a good idea I would love a trip to
cork. You could always buy 2 tickets

Follow up
from Bren...
That sounds about right
Colin, and after you have spent a few weeks over here (at
Kevin`s expense ,of course ) you could always then put in
for a roving brief to tour the world teaching your
art. I am not that sure that Elvis liked Sea Angling, but he
should be good for a few maggots by now.
Big Bren.

I'd just like to say again that I am disgusted
with the Irish anglers |
Using this site and not contributing.
come on! Kevin puts in allot of work and gets very little from the dubs.
sometimes it feels like Billy the bass and his lot are the only other
anglers in the country! come on it only takes five minutes and if we all
put in just a little time then we could really turn the reports section
into something special!
Good work Kev keep it up
Thanks and I unfortunately have to
agree, but the problem is not only with the Irish visitors, last month
we had over 4000 individuals who visited the site, who looked at over
40,000 pages. We had less then 100 fishing reports. Speaks for itself !

Tide tables for the Dublin,
Wicklow, Wexford for Ireland |
Kevin tide tables for the Dublin, Wicklow, Wexford for Ireland
area are very hard to get hold of. could you help out on your site?
I will see what I can fid, but the whole
issue of tide tables is a massive legal nightmare at the moment, due to
several court cases currently outstanding

Hi, I think that this webpage is great, but there arn't enough info
on the hot spots in the North of England. I am only 15 and I am taking
up beach fishing but I don't know where to go, could you please
help in recomending somewhere for me around the Yorkshire coasts.
Thank you, Yan Harris
We are trying to grow the Hotspots section,
but we need information from our visitors !
