Commanded by Captain Tessa Manchisco, the Flurry was a modified SoroSuub Quasar Fire-Class Bulk Cruiser. It saw action at the Battle of Bakura under the Alliance, and before in the Virgillian Civil War.
The Flurry was one of several cruiser-carriers donated to the Virgillian Alignment forces by the Sullustans. The cruisers had been stripped of main cargo brackets, which left the main hull brace, drives, and the command pod. Hangar bays were the fitted so that the cruisers were capable of carrying fighters, and when the Vigillians received the ships, they installed stolen Imperial weapons and shield generators, making the cruisers much more powerful than they appeared to be.
The Rebels obtained the Flurry when the Vigillian Alignment, who were sympathetic to the Rebel cause, donated the ship to them after getting rid of the Empire from their system just before the Battle of Endor. The ship was 340 metres long, with virtually the entire interior taken up by a large hangar bay. This allowed the Flurry to carry almost fifty starfighters, much more than the Mon Calamari Star Cruisers three dozen. Maintenance of the fighters was taken care by repair facilities located behind the main flight deck.
In times of battle, the Flurry had only two turbolasers for defence. A pair of tractor beams made sure that the fighters could dock safely. If the cruiser was attacked after delivering her fighters, then those ships were to be recalled to defend her. Normally the Flurry would deliver her fighters then retreat to a safe distance, although this was not always possible, and sometimes she would have to flee until her fighters could regroup.
The carrier-cruiser had a crew of 250 souls, over half of whim were stationed on maintenance and repair of the fighters. The bridge was small for such a ship, and only one astromech droid helped the small bridge crew with navigation and control. The gunnery stations each had a droid to produce the targeting telemetry. At the time of the Bakuran battle, the Flurry had been outfitted with an experimental battle analysis computer (BAC). This was the brainchild of the Alliances most famous strategist General Jan Dodonna. This system linked all the ships in the Rebel fleet in order to provide detailed images of the battle.
As the Bakuran battle occurred almost immediately after the decisive Battle of Endor, the Alliance did not have all that many functioning starfighters. The Flurry was given a mixture which comprised of twenty X-Wings, three A-Wings, and four B-Wings. Luckily for the cruiser Rogue Squadron was amongst the X-Wings assigned to her. The Rebels had not had time to make maintenance repairs on the B-Wings, and knew that they would very likely break down. But they included them anyway, reasoning that the fighters would provide a lot of firepower, even if it was just for a short period of time.
The Alliance was victorious at Bakura, but the Flurry was destroyed shortly afterwards when the Imperial Carrack Cruiser Dominant suddenly opened fire on her. All hands were lost, and the Dominant was surrendered to the Rebels. The dead crew of the Flurry were all posthumously decorated for their sacrifice in the name of the Rebel cause.
