The Mon Remonda

With the Empire all but gone, the New Republic could enter the Galactic stage in full force. This meant instead of merely harassing Imperial bases and outposts, it had to take and keep them. Therefore new ships had to be built. This was how the Mon Calamari MC80B Star Cruisers came about.

They were a slightly more advanced design than the MC80s used in the Battle of Endor, but were just an interim until the new MC90 line was ready. The Mon Remonda was delivered to the New Republic to lead the fleet into a new era of Galactic history.

The cruiser could not have arrived at a better time, as the rogue Imperial Warlord Zsinj was amassing a fleet spearheaded by his Super Star Destroyer Iron Fist. Han was put in charge of the offensive against Zsinj, and he returned to Coruscant victorious. They had destroyed the SSD and forced Zsinj’s fleet to retreat back to where they had come from. Remonda had passed her first test, but there would be many more to come.

Measuring around 1,200 metres long, the Mon Remonda was slightly different from the likes of Home One. She had stronger hull plating and more back-up shield generators. This gave the cruiser a better chance in long battles, as she could strip away an Imperial ship’s defences while taking quite a beating herself. She also carried one more squadron of fighters than the MC80 ones, making a total of four squadrons, or forty-eight starfighters. On the Remonda there was a squadron of A-Wings, two of X-Wings, and one of B-Wings. This gave the ship a lot of punch, and she alone could turn the tide of a battle into the Republic’s favour.

The weapons were formed into banks, so that they could concentrate on a single target and make sure it was either disabled, or completely destroyed. The forty-eight turbolasers were placed in groups of twelve, and the ion cannons in groups of four. The Mon Cals kept the same configuration in the command sections as those aboard the MC80s, meaning only Mon Calamarians can really control the cruisers. They are planning to change them for the new MC90 line, though, to make them more user-friendly to the other beings in the Republic.

The Mon Remonda was in action for the last time at the Second Battle of Calamari. She was destroyed by the World Devastator Silencer-7, but not before she took out an Imperial Star Destroyer and a few support craft. All souls on board perished, but their acts had saved countless Mon Cal and Quarren lives. She was a great ship, and she died an honourable death.
