The Outrider

The Outrider belongs to a cocky smuggler named Dash Rendar. He helps the Rebellion, and even flew at the Battle of Hoth. He uses his trusty ship for smuggling and courier missions for the Alliance.

Rendar’s ship was built by the Corellian Engineering Corporation, the same company that built the legendary Millennium Falcon. In fact the Outrider is a YT-2400 model, a newer version than Han’s YT-1300. It retained the same basic shape, with a saucer-shaped hull, and like other models in the YT series, it is highly modifiable.

The hull of the Outrider leaves room enough for engine modifications and more powerful weapons. The thick armour plating and large engines allow the hull to handle the strain of deep-space combat.

Cargo holds and the ship’s systems are located in the rounded hull area, although it is really filled up with souped-up engines, power generators and heavy weapons. Most, if not all, of these are illegal, but if you’re going to be a smuggler they are an absolute must. On the opposite side to the cockpit, there is the secondary escape pod, as well as the air lock. The docking hatch is also positioned on this side of the ship.

The primary escape pod is located at the aft section of the cockpit tube. This pod seats six beings. The cockpit is connected to the rest of the ship via a pair of starboard bracing arms. The interior of these bracing arms is usually used for living space and crew quarters.

As with most smugglers’ ships, the Outrider’s original engines have been replaced with three KonGar KGDefender ion engines, of military-grade and stolen, naturally. The hyperdrive engine is a Sorosuub Griffin/Y2TG, which allows the outrider a Class 0.75 hyperspeed rating. This is slower than the Flacon’s Class 0.50, but is still fast enough to outrun most military vessels, which are normally either Class One or Class Two.

The ship’s weapons are also fairly modest. They consist of a pair of heavy Dymek double laser cannons, dorsal- and ventral mounted on Corellian 1D servo turrets. These cannons have been modified by Dash to give them greater range. For greatest accuracy, the turrets are usually manned, but they can be used using the targeting system in the cockpit. This greatly reduces the accuracy, but it is often enough to fend off any small enemies. The cockpit tube has two forward-firing concussion-missile launchers, which each carry a magazine of three missiles. These weapons, combined with the ship’s powerful shields and a sensor stealth system, which is extremely illegal, make the Outrider perfect for smuggling and a good combat ship.

There is no doubt that the sturdiness of the Outrider has saved Rendar’s life many times, and as a result he has become very attached the her. In his own words, "I owe the Outrider the best… she’s brought me home when any other ship would have scattered me across space." Much like the Falcon is almost like part of Han’s family, so the Outrider is to Dash.
