Labria

This demonic-looking being considered himself to be an important information broker and spy at the Mos Eisley spaceport. The truth was that he was a drunk and the worst spy there was. But still, he did have some wits about him, and his addiction to drink did not stop him from going down in spacer's history as the one who pulled off one of the best triple crosses of all time.

He comes from the planet Devaron, and is like many of the males on his planet. He had all the same desires, to see the galaxy and experience everything within it. To look at, Labria is quite fearsome; he has pointed ears and a pair of horns just above his ears. He is somewhat different from the other males in his pack, though, in that he has two sets of teeth. This shows to other Devaronians that he is a genetic mutation, reminiscent of older Devaronion tribes.

Before he came to Tatooine, he had been a captain in the Devaronian army. He was ruthless, and he went by his real name, Kardue'sai'Malloc. He had grown up with a military background, which went back for sixteen generations. When Devaron eventually broke out in rebellion against the Empire, Kardue'sai'Malloc had his men turn to the Empire, and they fought the Rebels together at the Battle of Montellian Serat. It was here that Labria looked on as seven hundred captive men, women and children were executed. This act of inhumanity earned him the title of the 'Butcher of Montellian Serat', and the Rebels put a five million credit bounty on his head. They knew it was not likely that they would collect, but they always hoped that one day he would be brought to justice.

In the meantime Kardue'sai'Malloc resigned from the army and left Devaron, taking nothing with him apart from his extensive music collection. Due to his love of music, the Devaronian followed the great musician Maxa Jandovar to the desert planet Tatooine. He did not get to see her, but decided to settle on the remote planet. He stayed in Mos Eisley, and changed his name to Labria. In his native tongue, his new name meant 'cold food', and he placed a sum of 5,000 credits in a bank using the Airbal. After all this, he decided to become an information broker, though all the information he gave out was treated as suspect.

Often the secrets he gathered were not completely true, or just plain wrong. This was because he was nearly always drunk, or at least pretending to be so. But the locals knew how to treat Labria, and only fed him what they wanted him to know. He hardly ever had any success with newcomers, since his appearance frightened most of them away.

There was, however, one thing he knew quite a lot about: Jabba's crime empire. His best customer in this field was Mos Eisley's greatest spy, Garindan, although even this information was usually wrong. But it was at Chalmun's cantina that Labria overheard what would turn out to be the most valuable piece of information he would ever gather. He was visiting his friend, the bartender Wuher, when he heard that Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes had come to Tatooine, and that they were going to do a gig for Jabba.

He knew about their music, and wanted to see them. So he tried to gain Jabba's favour so that he would be invited to see the Modal Nodes. To do so he arranged to sell the services of a bounty hunter, Obron Mettlo, to Jabba. But Obron angered Jabba , and was sent into the rancor pit. Labria was not one of the Hutt's favourite beings. This depressed the Devaronion, who decided to get drunk and was mugged behind the cantina on the fifth day of his round the clock drinking. He managed to crawl back to his home, and then went back to see Wuher. By then he had concocted a new scheme.

Jabba's greatest rival on Tatooine, the Whiphid Lady Valarian, was to be married. She had hired Max Rebo to play at the reception, but Labria convinced her that Figrin D'an's band was much better. If D'an agreed, Jabba would be furious, and this was all part of Labria's plan. He knew he had to make up for his failure with Obron, and so planned to inform of Figrin's disloyalty.

The day went just as planned. Figrin played at the wedding, while Jabba arranged for a raid to occur at the same time. Her illegal gambling devices were shut down and her reception was in ruins. The Whiphid was so angry that she refused to pay the band, who then went with Wuher back to the cantina in order to avoid the Imperials. At the cantina, Figrin and the Modal Nodes signed a two-year contract. Labria then challenged Figrin, a compulsive gambler, to a game of sabacc. When that was over, the Devaronian had walked away with ownership of all the bands' instruments, except for Doikk Na'ts' Fizzz. Therefore the band could not leave until they paid Labria to get back their instruments. This meant that every night, Labria would get a concert from one of his favourite bands.

Tired of doing nothing, Labria had planned to sell his services to the Empire, or maybe to Jabba. But the Jabba was killed and his criminal power was spread out among many others in his court. Then the Empire fell, and all of Labria's plans were dashed.

He remained on Tatooine, but nothing is known of what has happened to him. He has weathered many changes in galactic history, but how much more can he take? Then again, how much more can the galaxy take?
