Rumours abound that Palpatine had borne a child, and one woman came forth, Roganda Ismaren, stating that she had indeed been the mother of his son, Irek. Roganada had been spotted by Leia on Alderaan at a Senatorial banquet, two years before the Battle of Yavin. Leia's aunts gossiped about the fact that Roganda was one of Palpatine's concubines, but it was Aunt Celly who voiced the rumour that she had borne Palpatine's illegitimate child.
After the inception of the New Republic, Leia travelled to Plawal to find the Lost Children of the Jedi, and there she encountered Roganada once again. Instead of wearing the luxurious outfit she had worn on Alderaan, though, Roganda was dressed in white, and said she was a fruit packer. She told Leia her son had died, and begged the Princess not to reveal her to the New Republic. Leia knew she was lying, but until she knew why, she could not really do anything.
It turned out that Roganada was indeed lying. Irek was alive and well, and training to be a Dark Jedi. It seemed that he was indeed the son of Palpatine, as he had inherited strong Dark Side powers. He was fourteen, and with the aid of a chip implant, could manipulate droids and machinery to do his bidding. He jad poor lightsaber skills, but he excelled in all other areas of Jedi training. The chip was in his brain, and had enhanced him so much that by the age of twelve he could have had an advanced degree in subelectron physics.
Irek was a strong enemy, and proved how dangerous he could be when Leia found her goal, Plett's Well. Here the Lost Children of the Jedi and their spouses were hiding. Deep in the underground caverns beneath the legendary Jedi Master Plett's home, the lost Jedi had been hiding for years. With R2-D2, Leia mounted a rescue attempt, but found herself trapped by Roganda and Irek. Irek challenged Leia to a lightsaber duel, but Leia did not give him the satisfaction. She knew that if she was to stay alive, she should surrender. Irek was ready to kill her, but his mother could not allow this. She saw how important a hostage Leia was. Instead, Irek called forth the Eye of Palpatine, a huge ship built by the former Emperor. But before the ship could rech Plawal, the Light Side intervened. Nichos Marr destroyed the ship, as well as himself.
Left completely alone, Roganda and Irek fled, fearing the wrath of the New Republic. They ran into the dense and foggy jungle, leaving Leia with the Children. Ackbar later said that reports indicated that the pair had travelled to the Atravis sector, and were hiding behind Grand Admiral Harrsk and his troops.
The New Republic do not doubt that they will hear from Irek and Roganda again sometime in the future. It is only a matter of time before Irek steps forth to claim his father's place, and maybe start another war that will rip the galaxy apart, perhaps forever.
