Stormtroopers are the elite shock troops of the Empire. They are completely loyal to the Emperor and will do anything to complete a mission successfully, even if it means sacrificing their lives. They are first-strike forces.
Stromtroopers always wear skull-white armour, of which there are several variations. One such variation was seen on Tatooine, where Sandtroopers were deployed to search for R2-D2 and C-3PO. These troopers were marked by an orange shoulder pad on their right arms, and they usually carried more powerful weapons than the usual stormtroopers.
When in uniform, stormtroopers are completely indistinguishable from one another. Their helmets contain comlinks, breath filters, and polarised lenses. The armour of the stormtroopers strike fear into everyone who sees them, achieving exactly what their Emperor wanted.
Contrary to many beliefs, some of stormtroopers can actually think for themselves. One such was trooper 1023 : Davin Felth. Davin had been assigned to Tatooine, to search for C-3PO and Artoo. During the searches, Davin realised just how cruel the Empire was. Fir instance, his squad commander ordered the execution of a sandcrawler-full of Jawas, creatures who could not defend themselves. Later, he saw a Tatooine farmer and his wife murdered, Owen and Beru Lars.
The final straw for him was when he was checking out the Mos Eisley Cantina after the incident with Ben Kenobi. He was with trooper 1047, when suddenly, outside the cantina, a Jawa rushed at them pointing a blaster. The Jawa fired several times, but the blaster had no power pack. When they both realised that neither one was dead, 1047 lifted up his own blaster and blasted the Jawa into oblivion. Davin knew then just what the Empire was about. He decided to help the rebels in any way he could. He scored his first success for them when the Millenium Falcon was escaping in Docking Bay 94. During the battle between his squad and Han Solo, Davin noticed that his commander had his blaster pointed at Han and was about to kill him. Instead of allowing this, as any of the other stormtroopers would have, Davin shot his commander in the back, knowing that the death would blamed on a stray bolt from the awesome firefight.
Since then, Davin has remained within the ranks of the stormtroopers, but has leaked as much information as he can to the rebels.
Davin is a shining example of what can be achieved when one person thinks for himself, and not as one of many.
