| James was born in Horsham, Sussex in 1807.
In the 1851 census he is living at Prospect Place just off the sea front at Hastings and he is a timber merchant. In 1881 he is with his son's family at Blacklands House, Crowhurst a few miles inland. They are described as farmers of 40/50 acres. However, he also had interests in brickmaking and pottery with various addresses in Hastings and a yard in Crowhurst. |
