This is my bike an 04 KTM Senior Adventure. It has a 50cc engine and an automatic clutch. My mechanic (dad) has made a few changes from stock. First of all we changed the bars to a nice set of Renthal KTM 50's. The stock shock was also replaced with a new Technoflex Emulsion unit, providing far better adjustment of the action at the back end. More recently for racing we also changed the original clutch springs for a 'stack' of spring washers in this configuration /()()()()()()()/. These washers allow the clutch to engage much later than with springs and means the power hits much harder. The standard 14mm carb has been replaced with a 19mm Dellorto. The main reason for this is to provide the motor with more fuel and keeping it cooler as the clutch washers make the motor work harder than with stock set-up which means more heat.
Dad looks after my bike and always makes sure it's in top condition mechanically and also looking its best to. He even makes the stickers up himself. He has a regular maintenance schedule after each outing. He works in a 3 ride cycle. After a ride he does his 'basic' stuff and after the second ride, all the basics and other items. After the third ride the bike is stripped down and rebuilt, all except the engine. The engine is looked after depending on the number of hours run with him regularly replacing piston rings, gaskets and pistons as needed. So far (touch wood), the bike has never let me down during all the hours of practice and now racing and looks almost as new as the day we got it. |
