The last time I was at this track was back at the start of the season and I didn't really like it then. As dad keeps saying, you can't just race the tracks you like and you have to race wherever the meeting is, like it or not.

In practice, I took off from the start and dad had a smile on his face (that makes a change), well he did until I got to the downhill with small ski jump and 'bog' for the landing. I wasn't going to head for the bog so tried to get as far right as I could. Unfortunately I got sooo far right the edge of the jump crumbled under the front well and I ended up on my backside with the bike fallen on top of me. From there on in it just went downhill.

The fact that all the fields are ploughed makes the surface very soft indeed and this showed in the paddock as well as on track with 90% of vehicles needing towing in and out with the tractor. On track it meant that it cut up and got very rough very quickly. the faces of the jumps got so deeply rutted that especially for us little un's, the bikes simply grounded in the ruts and came to a halt. Get in the wrong rut in the corners and you were stuck or sat on your backside while the bike stood upright in the rut. Basically it was quite simply a struggle to get around for everyone and the auto's and 65 class turned into a race of attrition and at times was just plain carnage.

This said it was of course the same for everyone and I just didn't seem to be able to make the right choices when going into the ruts and generally found the deepest rut corner after corner. It's actually pretty amazing that dad's heart didn't simply explode as his blood pressure rose to what must be dangerous levels but while he blows his top I just ignore him these days. I find singing while riding blocks out dad's ranting as you go past him but I get the impression this only winds him up more.... I can't think why :-)

The overall result was a poor 6th place, definitely not good. I am however looking forward to Vale MXC's indoor arena-cross series. I liked indoors last year when we rode quite at bit at SIMX before it closed and think that I can produce some good results in the arena -cross series, so bring it on!
