We can see Edward's family in the 1871 census - his wife Fanny and the two youngest daughters, Ellen and Louisa were living at Polesworth, Warwickshire, England. There was no sign of Edward but given that Fanny is transcribed as "wife" then he must have been around at that time.

Fanny Knibbs abt 1811 Ensham Oxfordshire England Wife Polesworth Warwickshire
Ellen Knibbs abt 1849 Polesworth Warwickshire England Daughter Polesworth Warwickshire
Louisa Knibbs abt 1856 Polesworth Warwickshire England Daughter Polesworth Warwickshire

I'm told by another researcher that Edward Knibbs was resident at the Hatton Asylum at the time of the 1871 census. I have yet to verify this but it would certainly account for his absence from the family home at census time.
