Marriage Notes for Henry Edward KNIBBS\Emily Newton WICKS:
Notes for Henry Edward KNIBBS:
It is understood that Henry Edward was the oldest son of John Edward and Fanny Knibbs as he was heir to "the few pounds" in John Edward's estate.
__________
We can see in 1922, Henry sailed from London, England to East London, South Africa with two female Knibbs', one of whom I assume to be his daughter Marjorie Doreen Knibbs, born in 1901. The other was born in 1884, so I haven't worked out who she was yet. Sadly her initial isn't given, but she is identified as Mrs Knibbs so it may have been a daughter-in-law.

Notes for Emily Newton WICKS:
I have been fortunate enough to have been given information of Emily's background from two different sources.
Firstly, David Bayne of Parklands, South Africa, whose wife is descended from the Wicks family in South Africa gave me the following:
David's wife's great great grandfather was Robert Wicks (1795-1825) who came to South Africa about 1820 (probably what is referred to as an "1820 Settler") he was a ships' pilot working here in the Kowie River (Port Alfred). He was lost at sea somewhere between Port Frances and Port Elizabeth while commanding the Bridekirk in September 1825.
David has no information about Robert Wicks' wife and very little about the one daughter I know of. This daughter married a Jack Reynolds and one of their children, Robert Newton Reynolds was David's wife's grandfather.
David came across a reference to an Elizabeth Wicks who married "a Reynolds" and her parents are given as Robert Wicks and Mary Midilet Newton (which is the same as we have for Emily). Unfortunately no dates at all were given. There was also reference to Elizabeth having 3 sisters, Ellen, Emily and Mabel and a brother George.
It seems highly likely that our Emily Newton Wicks is the sister of Elizabeth "who married a Reynolds" and that Emily is descended from Robert Wicks (1795-1825) above.
Next, I was contacted by Alaine Kent from Victoria, Australia, and she too is researching this part of the Wicks family. She gave me the following information:
Emily was one of seven children born to George Wicks b. abt. 1825, and his wife Mary Ann Midgeley. Emily's siblings were Elizabeth Ann Wicks (who is also mentioned my David Bayne above, and she went on to marry a Sergeant John Michael Reynolds who was b. abt. 1858 in County Clare, Ireland), John Edward, William, Ellen, Sarah Jane and Mabel Blache.
Elaine also tells me that Emily's grandfather was Capt. Robert Wicks from Maidstone in Kent. He was married to Mary Midilet Newton.
