Charles' parents emigrated to Canada at some time before 1893. Whilst there, they lost their children to a fever which was quite possibly measles. Charlton was born in Canada and the only one of their children to survive and to return to England with them in around 1899.

I believe that Charlton and Dorothy lived with either Charlton's or Dorothy's parents after they married and until the early 1920's when they moved to 296 Wellhall Road, Eltham, London S.E.18. For a short time, they visited and stayed with Dorothy's brother Charles Knibbs at Bihorel, Rouen, France, returning to England in 1923.

For some reason in 1911, Dorothy was staying at the house of Albert Jakings and his wife. Not sure of the circumstances. They were living at 11 Churton Place, Belgrave, London:
