Warwickshire’s oldest church has used the millennium as the opportunity for a New Start.

At midnight on December 31st 1999, floating candles were lit by over 100 local people in the ‘Sanctuary’ under the tower, a Saxon structure which had seen in the last millennium. TV images of the celebrations from across the world were projected live on to its 1,100-year-old walls.

Now St Peter’s congregation is moving some of its worship from the Nave to the spectacular and rarely used Chancel. The more intimate environment helps our Communion service to evolve in ways which are more appropriate to the individual questings of our time. We are exploring the resources of Common Worship, the new Church of England prayer book, published in November 2000.

Sung Services are held in St Peter’s every Sunday at 10.30am.  Family Services (which last just half-an-hour) take place once a month at the same time; they are popular and noisy occasions in the Nave.

Midday prayer is held Monday-Friday at 12.40.            Anyone is welcome to share these few minutes of quiet meditation and prayer.

Please e-mail us for further information about our services or look us up under Wootton Wawen on Church-Search.

The Vicar of St Peter’s is Canon Lawrence Mortimer, who is also Diocesan Communications Officer
