Types of Mice

Breeding

The short fur of the mouse is smooth and soft and in the pet shop you may see some of each of the 4 different varieties of colour.

In the first group the mice are or just one colour or self-coloured and may be white, black, blue, chocolate, red, fawn, silver or cream. Some mice may have pink eyes and some black.

In the second group, the mice are of two colours with the underside always tan, so you may find black and tan or chocolate and tan.

In the third group there is some marking on the coat, either like that of a Dutch rabbit or in broken or even spots or splashes.

In the fourth group are the more unusual varieties, the Chinchillas, Sables and Foxes.
When we talk of a pet mouse we usually think of the favourite white Albino mouse with short white fur, pink eyes, pink feet and a very long hairless pink tail.
