Officers records of service for the Regular and Territorial army, Militia, Fencibles, etc, can be searched from the mid 18th century. Information found can vary from basic details of commission and promotions to a detailed record of service showing full service including medals and campaigns. Many include details of marriage and chlidren.
Other ranks service papers 1760-1913. These generally show age on enlistment, place of birth, regiment or corps, promotions, conduct, postings, medals, wounds and medical record. After 1882 next of kin and childrens details are often included.
1760-1882 records are made up of men discharged to pension.
1883-1913 as above but also include men discharged due to various other reasons.
Papers for men who died on active service during this period, or do not fall within the above categories have not been preserved. However if a mans regiment or corps can be ascertained some details of his service can be extracted from muster rolls and description books. This can be a lengthy process but can reveal enlistment date, promotions, campaigns and more.
Boer war Imperial Yeomanry service records are more or less complete. These are filed numerically so a mans regimental number would need to be known.
