The beautiful Island of
Saona is a bird sanctuary off
the south-east coast of the Republic, with the waters of the Caribbean sea
lapping its shores. It was used for the filming of the 'Bounty Bar' ads.
The capital 'Santo Domingo', was founded in 1496 and is the
oldest continuous European settlement in the Americas.
The Island possesses dramatic scenery, fertile lands and
exports a range of products from tobacco, sugar, coffee and the gemstone Amber. The films,
'Jurassic Park' and 'Apocalypse Now' were shot
against the stunning scenery.
