What is Transport Tycoon?!

Information

Transport Tycoon--sounds interesting--but what is it?!

So, you've heard about Transport Tycoon, but you're still a bit confused at what you actually have to do, or what it's about? You've played the game but can't get the hang of it? Whatever your reason, this page is designed to be able to guide you through it at ease.

Transport Tycoon has had an interesting history. The first Transport Tycoon was released in 1994 and was available on floppy disk and CD ROM. You can now get hold of it on budget label from most stores. A year later in 1995, Transport Tycoon Deluxe was released. This now seems to have become very scarce and a lot of people have trouble getting hold of it.

The main advantages in Deluxe that weren't in the original include the feature of now being able to create worlds on four different landscapes. Whereas the original just had one landscape (normal earth), Deluxe includes the normal earth, along with snowy, dessert, and toyland worlds.

The concept of the game is to transport different goods and passengers around your world. This may not sound interesting in the outset, but when you have the option of using train, road, air, or ship transports, as well as keeping a careful eye on your bank balance and reputation, it gets a lot more intense. Subsidies are usually offered by the local councils to encourage you to build a transport link. For example, a message might flash up saying one town requires a passenger link to another town. The first company to make that link (you have competitors as well, you know) will be subsidised during the first year through how much money they get paid on each trip.

The Deluxe version also boasts a built-in scenario maker. The original did have this option, but it was a separate pack.
