6. Iraq

No to war and economic sanctions on the Iraqi people.

Yes to political and military sanctions on the Iraqi regime.

This Liberation calls for the deplorable terrorist acts in the USA on 11th September 2001 transformed the then prevailing "new world order" into the current new world disorder. The justifiable outrage was manipulated to forge an international alliance against terrorism. Phase One of this military campaign manifested as the pulverisation of what remained of war torn Afghanistan.

It was obvious even then that Afghanistan was the first, but by no means the last target. Political observers speculated many other countries, all of which included Iraq. In the meantime, Israel's Aerial Sharon unleashed his army on the civilian population of the Palestinian administration. His military allies in the Turkish armed forces invaded the Kurdish administration in northern Iraq for the umpteenth time, all in the name of anti-terrorism.

As if that was not bad enough, phase two of the international campaign now threatens to engulf the whole of the Middle East; Asia minor and the Indian sub-continent. Internally, already sectarian violence has been unleashed in the "world's largest democracy", India. Heaven help the peoples of the world's worst military dictatorships! Ethnic communities from these regions now resident in Europe and the USA are unfairly labelled as the fifth column.

This Annual General Meeting of Liberation further calls for:-

1- The immediate lifting of the Economic Sanctions on the Iraqi people, maintaining the military sanctions on the regime and isolating it politically and diplomatically.

2- The implementation of the UNSCR 688 and the appointment of international monitors to record the blatant violations of the basic human rights of the Iraqi people at the hands of the regime and its oppressive security apparatus.

3- The indictment and trial of Saddam Hussein and the leading members of his regime by an international tribunal or court of justice for war crimes, the use of chemical weapons, genocide and for crimes against humanity.

4- The freezing of all assets of Saddam Hussein, his family and the leading members of his regime and imposing a ban on their travel and movement outside Iraq.

5- Allowing UN weapons inspectors back into Iraq to seek, find and destroy any weapons of mass destruction under UNSCR 687. We believe that the Iraqi people have no need for and no interest whatsoever in developing these weapons. Considering the probable danger, caused by the production and storing of these weapons, on the health and well being of the Iraqi people, it is vital to rid the country of their lethal effects. The return of the UN inspectors should not be linked to the immediate lifting of the economic sanctions on the Iraqi people.

We do believe that if the international community want to put an end to the unjust suffering of the Iraqi people, and help them to bring down the brutal dictatorship, the above mentioned steps are the most effective measures needed to achieve these ends and bring about the realisation of the people's aspirations to establish a true democracy in Iraq.
