Friends are everywhere! Date: 06 Feb 2002 Mood: Good

www.friendsreunited.co.uk

Friends Reunited (FR) offers an unusual opportunity to contact people you went with to school, college or university. Through registering (which is free) you can deposit the details of your schooling history, by choosing a school and a date of leaving. Your details (including a short note about yourself - if you want to) are then displayed for all to see. If you spot someone you want to get in touch with, then it is easy to contact them through the site. However, a charge is made for this. You have to fully register, and pay a £5.00 fee. What this gets you is unlimited access for a year, to e-mail all the school friends you thought you had lost touch with.

FR is colourful, easy to navigate, and generally uncomplicated. Rumour has it that it is the most popular site in the UK to date, with many millions of hits per day. In fact that is where a minor niggle lies. At peak times (you guessed it) it can be uncompromisingly slow. FR is obviously a victim of its own success.

FR can sometimes be annoying in that schools can be linked together, giving an almost impossible list of registered users for a particular year.

Our rating would be: Good site, interesting use of Internet technology only let down by slow response. (B)
