Blood (Fake)

Blood (Fake)

Kat

250ml of water
2 flat teaspoons of plain flour
Red liquid food colouring
Blue liquid food colouring

Carefully measure 250ml of cold water into a saucepan.
Add two flat teaspoons of flour.
Mix the flour into the water until you have no lumps whatsoever - I find it best to use your hands for this.
Bring to the boil, and then simmer over a high heat for 10 minutes, stirring more or less constantly.
You'll end up with a slightly opaque looking solution, with something like the viscosity of KY Jelly.
Leave it to cool for about 15 minutes.

You can now add your food colouring. I've not specified an amount for this, as the concentrations of colouring vary greatly. I used the bog standard liquid food colouring (comes in 29cc bottles) that's available in any supermarket here, and my proportions were:
1 teaspoon of red
1/4 of a teaspoon of blue

This, when stirred in, gives a nice dark bloody colour. You can roughly double up the measurements more or less indefinitely if you need more, although you'll probably need a little bit extra food colouring on top of the double measure.

It's more or less edible (although it may make you gag a little if you try to swallow to much at once, due largely to it's thickness), looks great on film or in the flesh, and doesn't stain skin. I'd not advise getting it on light clothing, although the worst of it can be removed with a little effort.
It even dries realistically in small enough quantities.
