Basic Altar Set-Up
  • Pick a table or similar medium to large flat surface (I tend to go by whether it's large enough to have sex on, but that's just me). It should preferably be a piece of furniture you like, but which doesn't have too many other associations to it.
  • Positioning is largely up to you. You could put it in the elemental direction you feel most closely associated to. I personally like being able to walk round an altar myself. If there are any areas of your workspace that you feel are particularly powerful, you may want to position it there. There's always the old standby of wherever it fits, of course.
  • Take everything off it, and out of it.
  • Create a statement of intent. In it's most simple form this would be something like 'I sanctify this as my alter for use in magical rituals'.
  • If you are using any entities you can sanctify it in their names as well.
  • Drop some opf your bodily fluids on it - blood, semen, etc.. This binds the altar to you. I strongly recommend doing this to all your magickal tools.
  • Put your magickal things on it (your magical candles swords daggers etc.)
  • DO NOT let anyone other than yourself or your magickal partners put things on it.
  • You have an altar. Always use it in rituals when you can because it builds up a magical charge.
  • I really mean it about not letting people touch it or put things on it.
