Diary
Diary
Sometimes called a Book of Shadows, a Book of Mirrors, and a number of other terms, a magickal diary contains a magician’s notes on rituals he or she has performed, mantras, incatations, results of divination, dreams she has had, and other relevant experiences and thoughts.
Despite the stereotypical image of the heavy leather-bound grimoire, magickal diarys take many forms. Some magicians keep a box of significant items, some keep their diaries as computer files. Some don’t have one at all while others have theirs existing as entities on the Astral Plane as well as objects on this plane.
Magical Diaries may be set out in a similar way to a scientific report or written in some arcane language and set out in a way significant only to it’s writer, almost invariably there will be at least part of the diary that is kept private and personal.
Most magickal diaries are a closely kept secret but some are at least partially made available to other magicians as texts published in print or made available via the internet.
It has been said that the difference between a collecter of occult books and a magician is the diray. While this is by no means always the case, a magickal diary can be an important tool to aid in keeping to goals you set yourself, and in tracking your results with a modicum of accuracy.
