February 2
Purification of Meri Day in Lauranz's calendar of anti-holidays.
This is a relatively new holiday, celebrated the first time in 1996. A young woman named Mary looked in the Farmer's Almanac and found that Feb 2 is the Purification of Mary Day. It is her birthday, too, so I gave Mary a package of this soft body soap with the puff and wished her a happy purification day. Well, my daughter (her mom's best person in the world, of course, the apple of my eye) is also Mary. On the birth certificate she is Mary Lee and on her checks it says Mary L. Johnson, but when she was 12 she dropped the Lee and became Meri. So February 2 is Purification Of Meri Day, and I send her a package with some sort of lovely soap or bubble bath or pretty wash cloth or some such thing.

St. Valentine's Day
Originally a holidy of the Christian Church, this day has now become a celebration for lovers in throughout the western world.
Lauranz writes:
Of course I don't miss out on Valentine's Day! For a number of years I was heartbroken because of the difficulties [to put it mildly] between my SO and me, and I celebrated Valentine's Day by playing Janis Joplin records [Oh Daddy, Daddy, why you so mean t' me, why you treat me so shitty, and such like sentiments], eating candy Conversation Hearts, and Feeling Sorry For Myself. Now things are going much better, so I don't play Janis Joplin, and I don't feel sorry for myself, and I wait till the day after V-Day when the Conversation Hearts are on sale half price and buy a big bag of them and have fun. I have a Love Stinks button, and a really swell one which says Someone You Love Is Lesbian Or Gay. I'm waiting for one which says that someone you love is lesbian, gay, or bisexual. Equal time for those of us who swing both ways, please!
