Invocation

Invocation

Invocation involves an entitiy being invited into a magician who will be taking the part of the medium, or vessel, in the ritual. Invocatory possession is referred to in vodun type trditions as being ridden by a loa, and some wiccans refer to it by the rather abiguously used term 'drawing down the moon' (or sun). There are varying 'strengths' of invocation, although it can be had to pick and choose how intense a possession you get.
Invocation can be performed alone, although it is generally safer and more effective with 2 or more participants. I find, and others report, that full invocation almost completely blacks out your senses if you are being the vessel except for some extreme emotional responses, which means that communication with the entity which is invoked into you can be difficult, to say the least, although it is possible to direct your intentions to a degree.
This state is the reason for having another magician present, to ask as both a questioner of the invoked entity, and to protect the medium from being injured, physically or mentally.

Erotocomatose Invocation

Part of the text of this is adapted from a technque in S. Jason Black and Christopher Hyatt's book 'Pacts With the Devil', which was adapted by them from Crowley's techinque of Erotocomatose Lucidity. The rest of it is based on my own notes on using this and similar techniques.
This technique can involve more than two people. The medium will act as the passive object of attention from the others. This person should be in good physical health, and have eaten healthily for some time before the operation. It is can be advisable to avoid sex for a while before the working just because of the amount of sex it involves, although I've never found this to be a problem, to be honest.

The person who is the passive medium will be subject to the sexual attentions of other participants, and should be stimulated as much and in as many ways as possible, but without being brought to orgasm.
At this point the medium may be intoxicated in a suitable way. Different drugs have different magickal uses and effects, which can be taken advantage of. It is, however, by no means essential for the medium to be intoxicated.

When the medium is in a suitable state, a trance of ecstacy, if you will, it should take little effort to persuade any entities you've invited into the area to enter into the medium. The methods of invitation and invocation you use are entirely up to you. I tend to find fairly open ended ones without bindings to be effective.
