Robes
Robes
I’m using this as a general term for cothing worn by participants in a ritual to to enhance the effectiveness of a spell. Robes can enhance a spell due to the fact that the they themselves will build up a magickal charge, and can also be very useful in creating a suitable atmosphere. They can emphasise that the magickal undertaking is something special.
Robes are often simple, and made of natural materials, although some magicians have extremely ornate robes - the proverbial sequined mostrosities, comeplete with a hat reading ‘WIZZARD’.
The clothing worn during rituals varys depending on the magickian, the purpose of the rite, and the type of energy being used. For example, in a ritual involving sexual energy, the clothing should consist of whatever turns the magicians on. A specific robe could be used when invoking a certain entity, with appropriate ornamentation.
Robes are, like other tools, non-essential to the practice of magick. As an alternative, many people prefer to go naked, feeling that this brings them closer to nature, and makes them comfortable, while others don't change their dress in any way when performing magick.
