In 1979 he was awarded the Evening Standard Award for the Most Promising Playwright for Outside Edge (his tenth play) and in 1984 he received the Standard Drama Award for Comedy for Stepping Out.

When John Haddrell dies at the wheel of his car from a heart attack his lover Julia survives but following the accident she becomes housebound and depressed.

Soon an excessively solicitous widow (Margaret) invades her life; her counsellor (Anne) struggles to overcome Julia's suicidal feelings, and her handyman (Gary) becomes the prime suspect when objects begin to disappear from her home.

As the tension grows Julia finds herself more and more isolated. Why are things disappearing? Why does Margaret want to spend so much time with her?

This tense and excellent thriller keeps the audience guessing right up to the end.
