John Winter

John joined the Players in 2003. He has over thirty years experience in amateur theatre, and for most of them he was an actor and director with the coincidentally named Progress Theatre in Reading, before moving to the north-east in 1997.

In recent years John has played, among others, Pastor Manders in Ibsen's "Ghosts" at the People's Theatre and Colonel Julyan in "Rebecca" at Tynemouth Priory Theatre. He loves playing open-air Shakespeare, and his roles over the years include Prospero, John of Gaunt, Friar Lawrence and, since coming north, Don Pedro in Much Ado at Barnard Castle, and Falstaff at Warkworth Castle.

John occasionally makes commercial voiceovers for local television, and is scheduled to perform a one-man play at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2004.
