Glossop School

    Opened initially as the Technical School it soon became the Grammar School and was known as such from the 1920s.

Technical school

    In 1959 the Grammar School moved to the new premises on Talbot Road, it was joined by the two secondary modern schools, West End and Castle School, to form the comprhensive Glossop School in 1965. The premises continue to be used for Adult Education classes.

The inscription details not only the date of building but also the benefactor, Francis, 2nd Lord Howard of Glossop with pupils first being admitted in 1901.
