LIST OF HOTELS and REFUGES ON GR10 WITH SOME COMMENTS AND ALSO REMARKS ABOUT THE DAYS' WALKS
As explained elsewhere on GR10.co.uk only Hotels or Guarded refuges that provide meals are listed.  However, a few Gites are mentioned.  If anyone finds a web address URL for hotels where one is not given please let me know it.

SECOND HALF:   BAGNÈRES-DE-LUCHON TO BANYULS-SUR-MER                                  Return to HOME page

Click on the thumbnail pictures to enlarge them,  then use you BACK button

Suggestion from Bagnères-de-Luchon:  Walk to Artigue (2.20 hrs from Bagnères-de-Luchon) and lunch in superb mountain restaurant.  Then either Taxi back to B-de-L or stay at the Gites d'étape Tél. 05.61.94.36.15. www.artigaou.fr  This shortens the next day which is otherwise very long.  Then, walk to Fos or Melles (at point 1924m after Plan de Montmajou get to the left of the small lake to follow main GR10 - the map is incorrect)

Melles  Auberge du Crabère 05.61.79.21.99 or Hotel Gentilhommiere (05.61.79.44.51) at FosThe Auberge de Crabère is a really unusual place where nothing would appear to have been changed for many a year.  Monsieur is an accomplished chef and writes books on the subject.  Very small. http://www.paysdelours.com/fr/le-pays-de-lours/visiter-pays-ours/auberges-restaurants/crabere-melles.html

Étang d'Araing   Refuge de l'Étang d'Araing (05.61.96.73.73)  http://refuge-araing.apinc.org/ Very good.  Meals are provided provided.  Some small dormitories available.  They supply blankets only so a sheet sleeping bag is advisable.

Note:  For an amusing account of the section from Luz St Sauveur to Sentein by Alan Jardine please click and for his account of the section from Sentein to Siguer, with Bergtoppers click

E.  ARIÈGE SECTION

From Étang d'Araing either walk to the gites at Eylie OR to Sentein (using Tour du Biros trail)

Sentein Hotel Le Crabère Tél.: 05 61 96 04 22 http://www.le-crabere.com/ (Or Gites at Eylie 05.61.96.14.00)           See picture                                         sentein.JPG (61680 bytes)

NOTE:  The next section, and others later, have no hotels or guarded refuges so the method of tackling GR10 is based on daily road trips to and from road heads on GR10.  Further assistance or advice can be obtained from the small local firm  www.bergtoppers.nl   This does give some difficulty but this is far outweighed by the magnificent remote scenery - arguably the best all along GR10.   See also Ariège Practicalities

Walk to la Pucelle (car park just off GR10) from Sentein/Eylie

Audressein  L'Auberge d'Audressein, 09 800 Castillon (Ariège) - Tél. 05.61.96.11.80 - Fax : 05.61.96.82.96.  http://www.auberge-audressein.com/   A beautiful small hotel with an outstanding audressein.jpg (148433 bytes) table.  It is in a most attractive position by the river

By road to La Pucelle and walk to Riberot valley (Aire d’accueil)  and car transport from Riberot valley back to Audressein.  There is a quite substantial car park at Riberot.  Lifts likely.

Walk from Riberot valley to Pas de la Core also called Col de la Core (or possibly Étang de Bethmale but height will need re-gaining).  Port de la Corte has a substantial car park and is a good place to arrange a pick up.  This days walk is really exceptional.   Car transport from Port de la Corte back to AudresseinAn alternative is to continue on to the Gîte at Esbints but this makes the day long.

Walk from Pas de la Core to Moulin Lauga and car/walk to Oust or to Seix

Oust    L'Hôtel de la Poste  (33) 05 61 66 8633   This is a pleasant hotel in a quiet village.  Excellent eating. oust.jpg (78075 bytes) From the rear of the hotel one has a wonderful view.  Pool.   http://www.ariege.com/hoteldelaposte/index.html  or Seix  Auberge de Haut Salat (05.61.66.88.03) http://www.ariege.com/haut-salat/ or Hotel Restaurant Mont-Vallier (05.61.66.83.68) (Car/Walk from Moulin Langua)

Car/Walk to Moulin Lauga and walk Le Trein on trail "Tour de Val de Garbet"    This misses out a big loop on GR10.

Le Trein   Hotel Les Ormeaux at (05 61 96 53 22) http://www.hotel-ariege-lesormeaux.com/hotel.html A simple small village hotel

Walk from Le Train to Aulus-les-Bains (by shortcut from Jasse de Fouillet)merenslesvalles.jpg (238597 bytes)

Aulus-les-Bains Hostellerie de la Terrasse (05.61.96.00.98) ) http://www.ariege.com/hostellerie-de-la-terrasse/info.html

done by the chef.   See picture.

Walk from Goulier to Gesties

Car from Gesties to Foix (10Km on)  Hotel Lons *** http://www.hotel-lons-foix.com/ 00 33 (0)5 34 09 28 00  Good riverside hotel in a very beautiful town or  Tarascon-sur-Ariege Hostelrie de la Poste (05 61 05 60 41)  http://www.ariege.com/hostellerie-de-la-poste/index.html  or  Hotel Confort (05.61.05.61.90) http://www.hotelconfort.fr/ to Gesties and walk to Col du Sasc.  The Col du Sasc in near Pla de Montcamp (incidentally the first summit on GR10 since St Jean Pied de Port!).  It is accessible by road from Larnat on the main N20 road.  It is a gravel road but in frequent use by shepherds.  Car back to Hotel at Foix or Tarascon. The view from the (rounded) peak at Pla de Montcamp is exceptional and you can look right back to Pas de la Core and earlier passes you have surmounted!

Car to Col du Sasc and walk to Centre d'Acceuil at Plateu de Beille (on D522) where there is a cafe but no accommodation (Note:  The Cabane Les Clarans is very basic) and car back to Hotel at Ax-les-ThermesNote: the final part of the ascent from Clarans to the Plateu de Beille is very steep and not advisable when wet.

Ax-les-Thermes Hotel l'Auzeraie at (05.61.64.20.70) http://www.auzeraie.com  A good quality hotel in a lovely spa town. Try the public thermal foot bath for your weary feet!

F.  PYRENEES ORIENTALES SECTION

Train from Ax and walk from Mérens-les-Vals to Refuge des Bésines.  An exceptional days walk.  Watch out for the thermal pool about an hour above Mérens-les-Vals

Superbly located refuge.  A bit basic in ways but all one needs!  Izard seen locally in June/July.  Washing in the river.  Can not be pre-booked.

An alternative from here to Mines de Batère is to stay at the Hotel Le Mas Fleuri *** (00 33) 468 05 51 94  http://www.hotellemasfleuri.fr at Vernet-les-Bains and use road access to points on GR10.  However please note that the road access to Cortalet is very rough - there are 4WD Canigou taxis that do it. For details click Jeep Taxis.

Mantet     La Cavalle Equestrian Centre (04.68.05.57.59) or Auberge/Cafeé (04.68.05.51.76) at Mantet

A good walk that takes you through the village with the name Pi.  There is a shop there but when we called they sold only delicious home-made apple juice and just one other product!

Marialles  Refuge de Marialles (04.68.05.57.99, 04.68.96.22.90 or 04.68.04.49.86)
http://www.pyrenees-pireneus.com/refuge_marialles.htm

marialles.JPG (98746 bytes)

Walk to Chalet de Cortalets (Can be via Canigou 4hrs up and 1.5hrs down )cortalet.JPG (134007 bytes)

Cortalets    Hotel at Chalet de Cortalets (04.68.05.63.57)  http://www.pyrenees-passion.info/refuge_cortalets.php   Very large gites/hotel/camping place with several dining rooms.    Popular teeing off point for Canigou. (1.5 hrs)

A pretty and interesting, but not all that long, walk.  One can skip Mines de Batère and go on to Arles-sur-Tech (which means a long 1,800 m descent from Cortalets).
Mines de Batère. Auberge de Batère (04.68.39.12.01) at Mines de Batère

Arles-sur-Tech     Hotel les Glycines (04.68.39.10.09) at Arles-sur-Tech ) http://www.communes.com/logis/hotel-logis-arles_sur_tech-1607.htmlglycines.JPG (126947 bytes)
Comfortable hotel with a delightful wisteria covered terrace.  Near to the famous Abbey.

Walk to Montalba, which is on road, and taxi either to Arles (or Amélie-les-Bains)

Walk from Montalba to Las Ilas.  This can be abbreviated by taking a very pleasant diversion into Spain from the Col del Pou de la Neu

Las Illas    Hotel des Trabucayres (04.68.83.07.56) http://maureillaslasillas.ifrance.com/hostal.html  One of the best.          lasilas.JPG (147574 bytes)
A very friendly and pleasant mountain hotel/gite.

Walk to from Las Illas to Chalet l'Albère.   There are some wonderful views over Spain but also a rather gruelling road section after Le Perthus.

Col de L'Oullat   Chalet l'Albère (04.68.83.62.20) at Col de l'Ouillat http://ot-leboulou.fr/alberes.htm  Several wood cabins in a woodland setting with wonderful views.

Walk from Chalet l'Albère to Banyuls (N.B.  Waymarks hard to locate in places).  As the level gets lower and the temperature rises, banyuls.jpg (159014 bytes) this has some very tiring sections -  but the views towards Banyuls compensate for this.  There is a surprising short "urbanised" section before one finds oneself pacing the streets towards the sandy beach.

Banyuls-sur-Mer   Hotel Les Elmes (+33 (0) 4 68 88 03 12) http://www.hotel-des-elmes.com/
