So the album has been out for a million years, and it is not suprising at their expression of annoyance when receiving their Brit Award, but perhaps they should start smiling and enjoying themselves now. After all the music is what it all about isnít it. And while it is perhaps not a weird experimental album but one of nice, catchy and thoughtful pop songs it is this that has lead the Stereophonics to where they are now. They are currently working on a new album but that should not stop you from getting this if you havenít already.
Addict
Red Bird
Well I bet Mark Aston never dreamed he would play at the
Cambridge BoatRace as support band to Carrie (see above) after being signed - and
after such a long time. In the old days it wasnít always the ëcoolí venue
it it is now. Mark has been gracing the stages around Cambridgeshire in various
guises over the years, always the star at the Rock Competitions. His latest
incarnation is as frontman of Addict, a band which . . . which is ok, not too bad.
Unfortunately this single highlights their weaknesses rather than strengths. Red
Bird - the radio edit of the song seems insipid. Let it flow on the full length
album version and you can see where theyíre approaching from. A band like this
needs a few singles, instant pop songs to complement the rest and indeed to compete with
the rest. Even Radiohead do it. Ah yes, Radiohead. Ok so that band
may not be the most original (taking various established ingrediants, blending it and
coming up with a new soup) but thatís precisely why no one should try and copy
them. Addict have been listening to the aforementioned. You just can tell is
all. But it is early days in Addicts history and as has been seen with the
Stereophonics, if you keep plugging away then perhaps, one day, someone just might get
it .
Addict are touring from March 4th to 21st with Carrie . Catch
them at the Cambridge BoatRace on 15th March.
