To design .NET applications with UML you need a modeling tool. The most obvious choice is Rational XDE but that's quite an expensive proposition. Alternatively you can stick with Rational Rose, if you already have it, or use the Visio for Enterprise Architects version that comes bundled with the Visual Studio .NET Enterprise Architect and / or MSDN Universal Subscription. Or for simpler needs, you could make do with the much less expensive Visio Professional 2002. The problem is that all of those tools, except XDE, are rather limited in their support for .NET application design. |

LOTONtech has been working on enhancing the capabilities of Rational Rose, Visio for Enterprise Architects, Visio Professional 2002, and some other modeling tools so as to facilitate .NET design. If you're not yet ready -- or never will be -- to make a full commitment to Rational XDE then these tools can help protect your investment in your existing design tool, or provide a more cost-effective route into .NET application design.
The Visio UML Process Model provides a structured base model for your iterative, incremental development process. Use this with Visio Professional 2002 or Visio for Enterprise Architects.
RE.NET is a reverse engineering utility that helps you build a UML model from any .NET assembly, no source code required. Results may be imported into Rational Rose, Visual Studio .NET Enterprise Architect (with Visio), or another modeling tool that can parse C# source code.
How would you like a representation of the .NET Framework Classes in UML, to use as the basis of your design models or simply to increase your understanding of the framework? With the RE.NET utility you can do just that! |
