A chronological rendering of my view of Surrey news and events. Check here first for the latest on Surrey events, but if an event please do remember to check direct with the individual event organiser for the very latest, and definitive, news.
| 3 May 1998 | Box Hill Sunday meets - via the Sevens mailing list (see links pages for more info) a number of hardy Seveners are organising regular informal meets amongst the bikers (loads of straight line speed, shame about the corners!) at Surrey beauty spot Box Hill. Tony Isherwood popped along in his 1400K and took some snaps (Box Hill Snaps - care quite a bit to download if your modem is slow). |
| 2 May 1998 | Nurburgring News. News still coming in but sources tell me that Surrey front men Tony Pashley and Matt Deakin were first on the scene to aid an Elise driver who had a 4th corner off at the Ring. Elise not well at all including, I'm told, a very crumpled roll bar (which isn't quite the point of them I'd have thought). Apparently Matt had the only car at the scene (assume they were all on the same session) with a detachable extinguisher - food for thought. More when I catch up with Matt at Cadwell this weekend - see you there. |
| 20 April 1998 | April Surrey Club Night. Loads of people at the Wotton Hatch, despite the weather (embarrassingly low number of sevens!). Food good as ever and way too many conversational threads to report on here - I leave the clever witty stuff to Tony Pashley. Met up with newly keen net-head Tony Isherwood who is involved in The Car the Club Built (see more on the links page). Car is looking really good now, with much of the paint scheme coming together (see recent photo). We also discussed the possibility of putting up some calender information for other local areas that Tony is involved with. More to follow. |
| 20 April 1998 | From our correspondent in New Zealand. Andy Tunnicliffe (stalwart Surrey Man who, with wife Louise, delivered last year's excellent International event) surfaces with his own email account in NZ. In no rush to actually do any work he's been travelling all over the place and spotting some great roads to play on, if only he had a seven in which to do so! Check this out! Andy suggests a 'great 7 roads' page - any ideas? Drop the colonial a line - contact details on the Who's Who pages. |
| 26 March 1998 | Chairman Nick Richens' Seven goes quickly for
a change - Nick has written to me to point out
that his well known blue and yellow 7 is now to be seen
wizzing around the country's circuits at great speed
piloted by ex Caterham Challenge man, Lee Harasyn. Lee is competing in the 750MC class A championship in Nick's (lent for God's sake!) car - which was previously voted "Best Vauxhall" and is now reduced to the state of hard worked race car. Lee is doing really well, so give him some support next time you see a 750 event. |
| 9 March 1998 | Treasure Hunter Wanted. Are you a crossword demon, good with a map and honest and fair in setting and marking clues? If so, you're probably not devious enough to run the annual Surrey Spring Treasure Hunt. However, we are looking for a volunteer to put together an event. Past years have provided great entertainment (normally held in May). The rule is that each year's winner walks away with great prizes, the respect and affection of their peers and the responsibility of organising the following year's event. It's never worked yet (has it Mr Deakin?). If you are interested, drop me an email. |
| 26 February 1998 | The Clipboard is back! Angus Denny returns as Surrey AO, Matt Deakin having finally managed to persuade him that small noise and smell dispensers and co-ordinating Surrey Area do not mix. Watch this space for further developments. |
| 14 February 1998 | Another Brooklands Day Announced: After the success of our last two handling days at Brooklands we will be doing it all again. See 1998 Calendar for further details. |
| January 1998 | Area Organisation: Matt Deakin is still the Surrey Area Organiser. Despite promises made last year by demon clipboard wielder and erst-while AO, Angus Denny, Matt still has hold of the reins, despite a recent arrival causing havoc with the availability of his free time. Last year's International Event Organisers, Andy and Louise Tunnicliffe, were so concerned about being nominated as AOs they've disappeared off to New Zealand! Watch this space for more on Surrey Area's very own soap. |
