Breeding

Our objective has always been to breed ponies which retain their natural characteristics and hardiness and at the same time are able to do a job in today's world. Conformation is a priority as is good all round movement. It is necessary to be able to recognise any faults in a mare or stallion and choose a mate which is likely to minimise or hopefully eliminate faults in the resulting offspring. The Lunesdale ponies have, over the years been successful in different disciplines which shows the tremendous versatility of the Fell pony.

The Lunesdale Stud has always been interested in producing
grey Fell ponies which are comparitively rare. This picture
shows a pair of matching Lunesdale greys which won the
ridden pairs class at the June 2003  Sizergh Fell Pony Show.
The ponies are Lunesdale Mountain Heather and
Lunesdale White Heather ridden and owned by
Misses Jessica and Emma Woolley

After an illustrious showing career, Lunesdale Henrietta has produced
what we think is the best colt foal that we have ever bred.
We are therefore calling him " Lunesdale I'm The Man"

The grey stallion " Lunesdale Mountain Mist" was exported to the Czech
Republic early in 2003. In addition to covering mares he has embarked
on a whole new lifestyle which includes Western Style Barrel racing
and show jumping which goes to prove just how versatile and
willing these fantastic Fell Ponies are!
