When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples. (John 18:1)
BACKWARD
LOOK AT THE BROOK
Not a very good place for seeing ones reflection in the brook, it was gloomy ribbon of water with a gloomy history to match.
BROOK OF TROUBLED WATER
David in times of trouble had crossed the brook, barefoot, weeping and praying.
And all the country wept with a loud voice, and all the people passed over: the king also himself passed over the brook Kidron, and all the people passed over, toward the way of the wilderness. (2 Samuel 15:23)
Asa too had used this place of shadows.
And also Maachah his mother, even her he removed from being queen, because she had made an idol in a grove; and Asa destroyed her idol, and burnt it by the brook Kidron. (1 Kings 15: 13)
Athaliah was executed here and her evil
life terminated.
And they laid hands on her; and she went by
the way by the which the horses came into the king's house: and there was she
slain. (2 Kings 11: 16)
Josiah used the valley of the brook as a
common cemetery for the city.
And he brought out the grove from the house of the LORD, without Jerusalem, unto the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron, and stamped it small to powder, and cast the powder thereof upon the graves of the children of the people.
BRIGHT WAY FORWARD FOR EVERY BELIEVER.
Our Lord Jesus Christ too crossed the Kidron, aware of its history and significance.
Like David he went to Jerusalem and prayed in the garden of Gethsemane, troubled in spirit for Calvary’s cross-waited the final sacrifice for sin. Redemption lay beyond the Kidron.
BETTER FOR US THAT JESUS KNOWS THE KIDRON BRIDGE.
We all have our Kidron to face. Let down and betrayed by friends, sickness and bereavement, family upsets, financial needs, contempt from some, bodily pain, the list is long. In each of our Kidron’s He has gone before us. In all our afflictions He was afflicted. Jesus was both the Lord’s Anointed and the Lord’s Afflicted
BATTLE OF THE BRIDGE IS NOW WON.
Jesus triumphed over the cross and over the grave. So shall each faithful obedient believer in His Name. The battle is over and the victory is won. The Kidron has been crossed and prayer will answered for you at this time.
