Sadly Superman in America, Ken Bigley in Iraq, and Ted Simpson down our Avenue died in recent days. The muffled beat of the drums never ceases to be heard. Death is a fact of life. We pray for those who mourn.
We learn from Scripture as believers and as those who seek after truth, that there are four kinds of Death.
(1) Death Spiritual that describes the state the souls of all men and woman as the consequence of the Fall. We are "dead in trespasses and sins" (Ephesians 2-1). This is our state by birth.
(2) Death Natural or the death of the body. As the result of sin Death passed on all men and woman. (Romans 5-12) We all pay the penalty of sin in the return of their bodies to the earth. (Genesis 3-19) Earth to earth. Ashes to ashes. Dust to dust.
(3) Death Supernatural which is experienced by all Christian believers, and consists in a dying to known Sin, to Self, and to the World, accomplished by trusting the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour and walking closely to Him, the Cross always in sight. (Galatians 6-14)
(4) Death Eternal, denotes the condition of soul and body after the resurrection. This is called the second death (Revelation 20-14) Jesus spoke more about Hell than Heaven. (John 3-16) Give a perfect balance in this area of truth and reality.
(5) Summary. Death Spiritual relates to the State of the Soul. Death Natural to the Grave. Death Supernatural to the Cross of Jesus Christ. And Death Eternal to Hell.
