Introduction
The Lord of Glory has been making
large holes in darkness from the dawn of time.
A small boy once stood on the
balcony of his home in Edinburgh he was fascinated by the old lamp lighter doing
his work. ‘The man made holes in the darkness’.
God’s Word is full of marvellous
light.
Pleasing Creation – Full of Light
In the beginning God created the
heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was
upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the
waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the
light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God
called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the
morning were the first day. Gen 1:1-5
The Lord of creation in the Trinity
loved the light, He punched holes in the darkness and was delighted with the
result. He was filled with pleasure. The Trinity triumphed for the light
overcame the darkness.
Clary Scupham and Frank Rowley stood
under a gas street lamp in Pepper Road one Sunday evening and decided to go to
Derbyshire Street Mission in Hunslet. There the darkness of sin in their
life’s was punched through with the ‘Marvellous Light of the Gospel of
Saving Grace. Calvary crushed the darkness and blind eyes were opened.
It was an act of divine creation all
over again. It gave the Lord great pleasure to make them both new creatures in
Christ Jesus.
