JESUS CHRIST - The Anointed One

The Lord gives his people direction in and through Bible ministry. That applies to the believers here at the Hunslet Church. My ministry this year will centre on our LORD JESUS CHRIST.  Together we can be enriched and blessed in him.

The following scripture gave me in the theme for 2008.

Lots of anointings  ( See Exodus 29:2, 29)  of things set apart - chosen - selected  - hand picked – consecrated – sanctified.. Including bread cakes and biscuits. Coats clothes and vests. Alters lavers furniture. Tabernacles and temples. People believers prophets priests and kings and supremely so in all these matters Our Lord Jesus Christ. All points to the person of the Saviour all points to the man the prophet the king   THE ANOINTED ONE.

I am come to show thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision. Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. (Daniel 9: 20-24)

Believers have always sought to understand the matter and consider the vision.

We are this morning in very good company. Surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses.

Past history. Here today. Heaven above

(1) David : My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.

2  Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.

3  Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O most mighty, with thy glory and thy majesty.

4  And in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things.

5  Thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the king's enemies; whereby the people fall under thee. (Sin. Righteousness. Judgement to come) these are antagonising themes. The arrows of the Almighty.

6  Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre.

7  Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

(2) Isaiah: 61:1  The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

2  To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

3  To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

(3) Daniel. As above introduction.

(4) Luke quoting Our Lord Jesus Christ: 16  And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

17  And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,

18  The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

19  To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. ( The perfect time to accept the Gospel is the present day)

20  And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

21  And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

(5) Luke the Doctor and Physician in Acts.

(4:27 Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?

26  The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.

27  For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,

(Acts 10: 38) 36  The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)

37  That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

38  How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

39  And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:

40  Him God raised up the third day, and showed him openly;

The Anointed and His target hitting Arrows.

Today we carry the message of the Gospel to all people.

All deserve to hear the good news of God’s love for them and of the deliverance for them from a place of ruin from which there is no remedy.
