The
first message at the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ was a missionary message.
(Luke 2:10). And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
The
first prayer Jesus taught was a missionary prayer.
(Matthew 6:10). Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
The
first disciple, Andrew, became the first missionary.
(John 1:41). He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messiah, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.
The
first message of the Risen Lord to His disciples was a missionary command.
(John 20:41). Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
The
first apostolic sermon was a missionary sermon.
(Acts 2: 17 – 39). And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God; I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
And I will show wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:
And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
The
first reason Jesus gave for Christian love was a missionary reason.
(John 13: 35). By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
The
first coming of our Lord Jesus Christ was for missionary work.
(Luke 6:13-21). And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;
Simon, (whom he also named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,
Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes,
And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor.
And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases. ……..
The
second coming of our Lord Jesus is to be hastened by missionary work.
(Matthew 24: 14). And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
Our
Saviour’s last wish was a missionary wish.
(Matthew 28: 19). Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
The
last wish of the departing Lord should be the first wish of His waiting people.
(Mark 16:15). And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
