Revelation 21: 1-7
“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. AND HE THAT SAT UPON THE THRONE SAID, BEHOLD, I MAKE ALL THINGS NEW. AND HE SAID UNTO ME, WRITE: FOR THESE WORDS ARE TRUE AND FAITHFUL. And he said unto me, it is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.”
The living Word of God is most instructive and interesting in the fact and revelation that God never mends old things; He makes all things new. (Rev.21-5)
There are many who talk incessantly about how we can improve ourselves, making progress and improvement to our bodies and minds. The army of experts churn out literature on self improvement by the ton. Many launch into spiritual matters concerning man and his relationship to God. Before we reach the end of the first page of their instruction manual one is keenly aware they know absolutely nothing about spiritual things.
In truth of the matter the more progress we make in external, earthly things, such as arts, sciences and luxury of living the more one is alienated in heart and natural mind from the God of the Bible. A condition which results in a lifeless and unresponsive soul. Dead in sin is how the Bible describes the condition. Morticians seek to improve the look and appearance of the corpse, but when they have finished the beauty treatment, sadly the loved one is still dead. We cannot improve death, in body or in soul, it is humanly impossible and what is more we know it to be true; I have a personal friend who works as a mortician and he knows it better than any one!
Old things will pass away they will not be replaced or renewed, they will not be repaired this will be so, in order that all things may be made new. This is strictly in accordance with God’s universal law; His method of working in human history is revealed and shown to all in His precious Word.
Five quick brushstrokes paint the picture for us.
1. The OLD COVENANT OF WORKS. When the Law was broken by man’s transgression and sin, it was never mended or repaired as it were, so as to become a means of salvation; but a New Covenant of Grace (prepared before man fell!) superseded it.
2. The HUMAN DISPENSATIONS. As each failed they were ended. The Edenic Dispensation ended at the Fall. The Patriarchal Dispensation ended in failure and was finished by the world wide flood, and a new Dispensation took its place the Jewish.
3. The OLD ORDER OF PRIESTHOOD that of Aaron, came to an end and a New Order that of Melchisedek, took its place.
4. The OLD CREATION marred and ruined by sin is not mended or patched up, but an entirely New Creation is created in the hearts of every born again believer through Repentance of all known sin and faith in Our Lord Jesus Christ.
5. The OLD HEAVEN AND EARTH shall pass away, and a New Heaven and Earth shall succeed. Every thing of Earth, and of Time grows old, becomes corrupt and will vanish away. However those things which are Spiritual and Eternal will remain incorruptible undefiled and vanish not away.
Those who believe the Bible will find these remarkable truths so briefly stated to be helpful in the understanding of the massive scope and Power of God working through history in distinctness of purpose.
All things work according to the outworking of His Love.
Our part in this great matter is to Believe Love and Obey the Saviour Jesus Christ.
