Moses
in DEUTERONOMY records God’s mighty deeds
Deuteronomy
is one of the great, practical writings of the Word of God. Conceived in the
heart of the God of Israel and
written by the hand of Moses the outstanding leader of the people of Israel.
Jesus Christ loved
this book and so should every Christian believer. Truth in this segment of
Scripture is built on unshakable and unchangeable bedrock granite of the Law.
Preachers ought perhaps to delve into all the drama and directives found here
and bring them alive in the pulpits they are privileged to minister from. Our
people today deserve to hear some thing new from something old! Feed them
granite instead of feathers.
Same
Law is given a Second Statement
The old generation of
Jewish people had died in the desert and the new generation of wanderers in the
sands were very much alive, they too deserved to hear and receive the same
brilliant revelation of truth in the Law as did their Father’s. Something’s
are worth repeating and should be repeated and reiterated.
Plain
Message on the Plains of Moab
Moses was a man of the
plains as well as a man of the mountains. From the heights of Sinai where he
first received the Law written in stone, to the rolling Plains of Moab and the
repeating of that very same Law.
Love
of God and Law of God
The love of God and
the Law of God are interwoven in His purposes and plans for all men and women at
all times through the generations.
People come and people
go, each generation succeeding the previous generation the coffin is never far
from the cradle for any man.
Deadly
Weaponry from Deuteronomy
Our Lord Jesus had
armoury stacked as it were in this precious book! The Redeemer was able to draw
on reserves already to hand. Quoting from it, He twice rebuffed and defeated
Satan the evil one in his wiles and deceit in the temptations in the wilderness.
Jesus Christ was more than triumphant in temptations and attack by using and
applying Holy Scripture constantly to the prevailing situation. His way in these
matters can be the believer’s way.
Lest Satan should get
an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices (2 Corinthians 2:11)
Put on the whole
armour of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For
we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against
powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual
wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6:11-12.)
Aspirations
and Actuality
Moses maintained, at all times in
his life and in every place that he found himself, a deep personal love for the
Lord, his heart and mind overflowing with heavenly knowledge along with the
pulsating aspirations that came with close fellowship.
He had to balance that lovely
personal position of living aspiration with the continuous accountability of the
people he was leading and directing under the Law of the Lord.
Beautifully balancing the Will of
God at the same time he was guiding the walk of the people. The balance scales
rising and dipping, according to their obedience to the revealed life style
offered to them
Founder
of the Nation – First of the Prophets
Deuteronomy concludes with the
death of Moses (32:48-52) and the burial of Moses (34:1-12). His last words of
blessing to the tribes of Israel he had led so long in the wilderness are filled
with love and emotion; he recounted the common experience they had shared
together. Confidence for the future is strengthened by the remembrance of the
past. The same Living God who had done mighty works since the Exodus would
surely cover and protect them in the coming days of battle in the Promised Land.
Moses had mellowed in all
relationships on earth by his nearness to Heaven. Truth and tenderness flow from
his tongue. He savoured the moments last spent
with those he had led and always loved.
