They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.
But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. (Matthew 9: 12-13.)
Matthew had decided to follow Jesus as a believing disciple
It was a tremendous decision it was a life-changing act of faith. He was called, and he immediately followed the Saviour of Men, the whole process, was, and is sublime in its simplicity. Many people will get saved in 2006 it is time for decisions to be taken. As it was so it is. Is the Lord of Glory calling you to believe, this could be the moment of your decision to repent of sin and receive new life in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus came to Matthew’s home
Jesus comes into our hearts then into our homes. He is prepared to meet our friends and our enemies. He will sit at our table, Jesus delights in table-fellowship with believers, publicans and sinners. In fact He came from heaven to fulfil the supreme purpose of God’s desire. It is not the Father’s Will that any should perish; Jesus came to save all who call on His Name. He can save you as you sit at your table.
Hosea and his Call for Reflection
It was time for the religious leaders including the Pharisees to take note of the former prophet in Israel. Jesus put them back on track in this area. They were only interested in religious obedience to external rules and regulations. Their conception of God and the priorities to His Will had led them to a false understanding of His loving purpose for the people. They had no love for the people, for them it was all ritual and all external. “Go and learn what Hosea what actually meant”. Go back to your own Scriptures and rediscover their life giving message of God’s love and redemption he advised them. Go read and learn the truth is in your hands. Read more criticise less.
Jesus Reverses the Rules and Regulation that misled the people
He reverses the rules of dead formal religion. He came to bring life and to give life; Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Sinners who hunger and thirst after righteousness are nearer true faith and true righteousness than the self-satisfied critical and criticising religious expert.
There is a place at the Lord’s Table for those believers who love and trust Him.
