THE OPEN WINDOW

"Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem,
he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime"
(Daniel 6:10) .

DANIEL KEPT AN OPEN WINDOW IN HIS SOUL
A window lets in the light of heaven, and gives an outlook to the skies. He lived in the light and judged all things by that light. The God of Israel was his teacher and Lord. He was not at the mercy of others or indeed himself.

DANIEL TRUSTED AND SWORE BY THE GOD OF HEAVEN AND EARTH
He was a man of faith. He was a believer. He knelt on his knees on earth and his spirit soared like an eagle in the heavens. Daniel had balance in his daily life and work and worship.

THREE TIMES A DAY HE WAS IN DIRECT CONTACT WITH THE LORD
He rehearsed and reflected his daily life in the radiance and reception of his Lord and Saviour. He was indeed a busy man burdened with great and heavy responsibilities but, at the beginning, middle, and close of each day, he found time to pray.

NO WONDER HE BECAME GREAT
His spirit was in easy reach of the infinite spaciousness of the eternal. Through the open window there came the golden light, which illuminated his mind with wisdom and direction and filled his heart with a deep settled peace.

AS IT WAS FOR DANIEL, SO IT IS FOR BORN AGAIN BELIEVERS
Today we need not grope in darkness and gloom we need not groan at every trial that comes our way. He went home to the open window, he did what he always did, nothing changed things went on the same, he had nothing to alter – kneeling down he prayed and gave thanks as he always did. Christian faith runs in a straight line, the people of God turns neither to the right hand nor to the left. We bring all things to the Lord and we leave all things with the Lord.
